Dogs welcome!
Giant tree swing for all ages!

  • Spacious pop-up site five minutes' drive from Romsey
  • New Forest and Peppa Pig World within 10 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches with no artificial light for great stargazing
Small Trees Campsite is a spacious pop-up site in the Hampshire countryside, about five minutes’ drive from Romsey. The large camping field here is surrounded by a variety of trees, and you can choose to pitch in an open space or a more sheltered spot. Families and dogs are welcome, as well as solo travellers, and dog can be walked nearby on Canada Common. Life on site is all very peaceful – you may well spot kites and buzzards circling overhead, and can finish your day warming up by a firepit, which you can hire on site (on a first come, first served basis); wood is also available to buy. On selected evenings you’ll also be able to buy wood-fired pizzas for an easy evening meal as the sun sets. A water supply and separate male and female toilets are available on site, along with hot showers, but please note that there’s absolutely no artificial light here so you’ll need a torch to find your way around after dark. The trade-off, of course, is that the lack of light pollution often leads to some stunning stargazing on site. As for getting out and about, you can cycle over to the New Forest in about half an hour, or hail a bus from the stop a short walk away for services to Salisbury, Romsey or Peppa Pig World.

The Field unpowered grass tent site

Liked • The toilets and shower are spotless and the owner cleaned regularly throughout our stay. Shower was hot! A mirror in the shower would be useful.
• The size of the space means you can pitch up without feeling crowded
• Kids loved the tire swing!
• Free coffee and tea in the morning (although I was too late getting a coffee so be quick!)
• I was able to buy homemade Damson jam which is so yummy.
• The owner was so lovely. She was working hard throughout our stay to clean.
•Perfect if you are going to Paultons Park or Harold Hillier Gardens.
•Stars, stars and more stars!

Disliked • The toilets do have a strong smell due to the chemical toilets. BUT we went over a bank hol when it was very hot and very busy. The owner was trying her best to use air fresheners etc but it's really difficult. I could manage with it and many people did but just a heads up if that kind of thing is an issue for you.
• Queues at the washing station because the tap to fill up people's tanks would shut off the other taps so that caused some confusion and a bit of a delay. This water is cold. Again not an issue for us but some other campers aren't so patient.
• No internet signal and no WiFi (again good for us but not for all)

The Field unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Hosts were LOVELY.
Peaceful - lots of space. Flat.
Showers were clean and hot.
Pizza night was also great touch. As was the free tea/coffee.

Disliked Toilets are a little cramped - but means you get friendly with other campers chatting as you go by.

The Field unpowered grass tent site

Liked Loved our stay here - didn’t want to leave today! Really beautiful view, pizza night was delicious, showers big and warm. Really loved it

Disliked The toilets were very dark, small and the smell really was overwhelming. It states playpark in the campsite add but it’s a toddler slide and 1 swing that all the kids argued over. Would be nice to have something else for the kids as they all seemed to gather round the 1 swing. Will be returning next year if toilets and playpark get upgraded - then it would be the perfect campsite

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Lucy, thanks for the review and glad you liked it.
We are a pop up of only 2.5 weeks and a field - facilities are minimal but adequate for the number of pitches.
The toilets have been completely overhauled and a lot of work has gone into them. The lighting we prefer to keep low so as to not ruin the star gazing for guests. The ad does say to bring a good torch. The smell unfortunately isn’t helped with a full campsite and very hot weekend, they are chemical toilets, I clean them multiple times a day so sorry they weren’t better.

Also, sorry children fought over the swing - something that has been a highlight for most kids visiting. We can’t have anything more due to insurance.

Thanks for staying!

The Field unpowered grass tent site

Liked The hosts were really lovely and were available daily. They provided free tea and coffees every morning and were so helpful with any requests we had. Considering the size of the campsite the facilities were very good. Toilets were very clean and running hot water available for showers.

Disliked The field had quite a lot of poop, which we suspect may have been used for sheep prior to the campsite opening for the season. However, it didn’t smell and it had dried so didn’t bother us too much

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you! Yes, without rain this season unfortunately the dried sheep poop could not break down, we rolled and cleared as best we could. Thanks for staying!

The Field unpowered grass tent site

Liked Nice campsite with loads of space. Toilet facilities on site. Limited shower facilities, which could be an issue at busier times.

Close to a town with good facilities and some nice pubs.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed our campsite! Thanks so much for staying. We have enough showers for the number of pitches but it may be something we can add to in the future.

The Field unpowered grass tent site

Liked Rocked up. Kid loved the swing. Perfect little base for what we needed. Quiet and peaceful. Amenities were all pretty decent and world away from what I remember as a kid and the freezing cement boxes. The tea in the morning was a god send.
Happily go back. Thanks for the stay.
