Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: The campsite was very well organised, reception was easy to find as well as facilities. The site was neat and tidy, lots of bins for use, picnic tables available too. The toilets were stocked with hand soap / toilet roll and felt fairly clean. Overall it felt very safe and friendly.

Disliked: I struggled to find my camping pitch as the markers are quite destroyed and hard to read. There was some animal poo on my pitch that I discovered with my foot while putting my tent up. Also just a warning to other campers that the ground is very hard here and I bent quite a few tent pegs in half, so bring a good mallet!

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: Quiet site and pitches are very flat. Plenty of toilets and showers which were all clean.

Disliked: Long walk 20 mins to train station. The last part of the walk at the rear of the cinema is dimly lit and a bit intimidating when there are cars late at night in the golf car park

Woodland cabin (pet friendly)

Liked: The location is perfect for us - we live in London and I absolutely love the fact that we can travel after work on Friday and spend the whole weekend there. The cabin is very well equipped, so you don't need to pack much - perfect for last minute trips or for those with limited space in the car. There are plenty of power outlets inside the cabin and even a heater so you don't need to worry about the cold nights. Our daughter loves the playground.

Disliked: The bathrooms are always very dirty. It was our second time so we were a bit more prepared and showered before we left home. We still had to use the facilities of course but we tried to limit it as much as possible - eg we took a potty for our daughter who hasn't sat a potty for 2 years+. I really wish there would be more effort put into cleanliness.

Woodland cabin (no pets)

Liked: Accommodation was clean and well equipped. Location of the site was good and gave convenient access to London trains.

Disliked: Toilet facilities were adequate but needed cleaning more regularly. Site was busy meaning more frequent toilet cleaning was required.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: Staff were pleasant and helpful but we didn’t want to see the London sights and this was therefore a poor choice for us. I had incorrectly assumed that the 18 hole golf course would mean it was picturesque. It wasn’t. The Odeon Cinema was a life saver. It was the only place in easy reach to even buy something to eat.

Disliked: Electric hook up didn’t work. Location.

Powered grass tent site

Liked: - proximity to London - playground for the children - good information prior to arrival - good pitch sizes - night warden responded well with very noisy campers - cinema on site if rainy day

Disliked: - lack of clean facilities (toilets an absolute mess - could only use one toilet as all filthy) - lack of emptying of bins. Woke up to rubbish strewn everywhere - had to clean our pitch of rubbish before we could pitch the tent - golfers arriving early so if you’re not an early riser they’ll wake you up walking past the tents!

Local attractions

London, of course… get into the city in under an hour from the local station, Edmonton Green – trains run from here towards Liverpool Street station, gateway to the hundreds of things to see and do around the city. Those who've come to escape city throngs will happily find many activities available in the Lee Valley, Hertfordshire and Essex, from gentle walking and cycling trails to adrenaline-raising whitewater rafting or family paddling on the Olympic course at the Lee Valley White Water Centre (where the canoe slalom events were held during London 2012). Seasonal fishing is available in the area if you prefer a more placid pursuit, or you could take the crew along to Lee Valley Park Farms at Waltham Abbey, to meet meerkats, llamas, reindeer and other non-native (and native) critters, watch events like falconry displays and pig and lamb racing, or let the kids loose to career around one of the four adventure play areas. The 1,000 acres of River Lee Country Park should sort those who want to see critters in their natural habitat, as well as those who want to walk, cycle, or get out into the water in a canoe, rowing boat, electric boat or pedalo.
