A fan of the sea, dreamy walks or watersports? There’s a lot in the way of water-based activities and walking or cycling nearby Clapham Farm, just off the South Downs Way and Vanguard Way. As well as having direct access to these trails, you’ll be half an hour’s walk away from Cuckmere Valley’s river valley activities and 15 minutes’ drive away from a couple of beaches. You’ll be able to see Cuckmere Valley and the South Downs National Park from the site, which is just down a private farm lane (clearly signposted). This spacious dog-friendly place is part of a farm for the record, with the managers living close by for any pressing questions and nifty facilities including toilets, running water and a car park. Whether you’re calling in by car or from one of the trails running through the farm, you’ll be able to easily track down places to tackle any tummy grumbles in the local villages. Litlington, under 10 minutes’ walk away, has a pub, tearoom and a brewery (the place to go for tours, tasting or to gather a stash of local beers to take home). Further along the same way and 35 minutes’ walk away from the site, you’ll have your pick of a few more pubs in Alfriston and shops or a tearoom along the high street (this place also has a Grade I-listed church, by the way).
