  • Laidback family-friendly farm site close to the Merseyside coast
  • A 10-minute drive from Southport and 20 minutes from Formby
  • Play area and small pool on site; walking distance to farm shop
Fancy a bit of family farm fun, mixed up with days spent splashing about at the seaside? Make your way to Merseyside and a stay at Jacksmere Camping, a farm site 10 minutes’ drive from Southport. Tucked away in a rural location, in high season this is a place where kids can scramble about at a straw-bale play area, jump about on a bouncy castle (inflated for an hour in the morning and again in the evening) and splash about in a small above-ground pool that gets put up and filled daily in warmer weather. There are ponies to meet on site too, and rides may be available at times if you ask nicely. All of this adds up to a lively family atmosphere in the school holidays; outside of these times, there's usually a more chilled-out vibe on site. Pitches here are nicely flat and have access to essential facilities including wifi and clean and functional toilets and showers. If campfires are a key part of your outdoor break, you can hire a firepit on site and get a blaze going for a cosy evening of stories as the sun goes down. Fires are only allowed in the site’s rental firepits, so please don’t bring your own. There’s wood for sale on site too – again please don't bring your own. Dogs are welcome on site but you’ll need to keep them on leads at all times because of the ponies (and other guests). There are plenty of local footpaths for walks short or long. This well-connected site is an easy 10-minute drive from Southport, a popular seaside spot where there's much to see and do. Handily, the site is also a 20-minute stroll from two restaurants and an organic farm shop, while the Lord Street shopping area can be reached within about 10 minutes by car.

What customers say

Great spot near Southport with a friendly owner. Kids loved the animals and quad bikes. Facilities are basic, though a bit dated. Watch out for uneven pitches and noise. Owner's helpful.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Price

Disliked Toilets are gross.
Large smelly rubbish pile
Overcrowded
Hard to find entrance

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Toilets cleaned three times a day and are super clean See other reviews
Yes they are old but they don’t have to be new. This is a campsite with male female toilets and showers with hot water
BUT WITH POSH GOLFERS - nothing would be up to their 5 star standards
We were full and more for the weekend and only a small handful of complaints

Wouldn't return to that site.

Liked That the sun was shining.

Disliked Camp owner tried to charge us more and stated it was card payment only which we were made unaware of. Found him to be quite rude. Facilities very basic and camp very crowded.

From the manager: We don’t know , unless told , if the booking is come via website which deducts their commission Or Not
As for rude - well that’s the first I have been called that. Read other reviews about me

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Location was pretty decent, only ten minutes from town.

Disliked Paid for electric hookup, got a 3 plug in the toilet block miles away. Other van got no electric. Owner tried to charge us more than advertised pitchup price.
Only two tiny bins on site, so instead owner had a rubbish pile he was going to burn. This was right next to our van so we had to move to avoid black smoke and fire.
Toilets were awful, pee on the floor, only one shower, floor was rotten. When you flushed one toilet water came up form the floor.
Washing facilities were awful. Dirty.
Chickens and ponies roamed free, as did the farm dog, so you better like animals eating your food.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Booked for tents But turned up with large vans - which we don’t cater for
How ever we felt sorry and fitted them in
Expected to pay same as tents
No. Extra is due but didn’t pay

Rubbish was actually Bonfire for all campers and was collection of pallets

Toilets maybe old but are super clean

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Friendly host who actively managed the site. Some shade provided by perimeter trees and wildlife -friendly hedges. The toilets were clean. The site was quiet with most people settled down by 10 pm.

Disliked The toilet block needed an upgrade, but, as above, was clean.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The grass was clean that’s about all we can say that’s good
The location is good about 15 mins from Southport

Disliked Toilets were a falling down building that stunk of urine with no hot water
Grass is really uneven , we don’t expect football pitch perfect but this was really really bumpy
Electricity box are behind really long grass that has stinging thistle in so you will sting your hands and legs
Child that lives on the farm will not leave you alone wants food off the bbq runs in and out of the tent even after being told not too

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: This site is advertised as a wild camping plus site
Yet odd balls , come expecting in town amenities
Toilets and showers are perhaps the cleanest on any campsite Cleaned three time a day

And finally kids will be kids and most parents are delighted to have our little Zac come and play with their kids and keep their kids occupied
Guess some people are never happy !

Will defo be back.

Seaside days in Southport surely have to be on the cards when you’re staying here – it’s only a 10-minute drive away, so it’s easy to get there for beach times, visits to Southport Pleasureland and Southport Model Railway Village. There’s also the British Lawnmower Museum if you’re into niche attractions. Elsewhere along the coast you could head to Formby (20 minutes’ drive) in search of red squirrels or make your way to Crosby (35 minutes) to see Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ installation on the beach. Turning inland, you could visit Windmill Animal Farm (15 minutes), WWT Martin Mere (15 minutes) or the National Trust’s Rufford Old Hall (20 minutes). For a bit of big-city buzz, spend the day in Liverpool (40 minutes), strolling round the Royal Albert Dock and shopping areas, visiting the various museums and iconic football grounds, and trying out a whole lot of food options.
