  • Glamping tents at a Lancashire farm 10 minutes' drive from Ormskirk
  • A 20-minute drive to Southport; 45 minutes to Liverpool
  • Farm shop and café on site; firepit provided for tents
The team that run Canvas and Country have a deeply held love of the outdoor life, and it shows in the setup they’ve created at their rural Lancashire glamping site 10 minutes’ drive north of Ormskirk. Spacious rental tents at this site have been set up to provide a stay that’s nicely comfortable but also maintains that sense of outdoor living. Beds (a double bed and a couple of camp beds) are provided, as are a bunch of other extra touches including fairy lights and a firepit, plus cooking equipment so you can create alfresco meals easily. Shared toilets and showers are a short walk away from the tents (so you might want to pack a torch for after-dark outings…) The site here is part of a farm that’s got a café selling breakfasts, lunches, snacks and cakes, and it also has a farm shop for takeaway treats: everything from fresh bread and local cheeses to farm-produced sausages to cook on your firepit. When it comes time to head out, there are lots of attractions nearby to keep you busy, including beach days in Southport, Formby or Blackpool, rural wanders at WWT Martin Mere or city days in Liverpool.

Local attractions

If the kids are keen for more tastes of the rural life, set off for animal feeding and petting sessions at Windmill Animal Farm (10 minutes’ drive) or meet ponies and drive go karts at Farmer Teds Adventure Farm (15 minutes). Mere Sands Wood (15 minutes), Beacon Country Park (20 minutes) and WWT Martin Mere (10 minutes) are all good places to seek out wildlife as you wander. Beach time may well beckon around here too. Blackpool (an hour) is famous for the Pleasure Beach and attractions like the Sea Life Centre, while nearby Southport also has a lovely sandy beach (20 minutes) plus things like the British Lawnmower Museum, Splash World and Pleasureland amusement park. Formby (half an hour) is another coastal town that’s worth a visit for its wilder beach and the chance to spot rare red squirrels in the nature reserve. For a change of scenery, spend the day in the museums, restaurants and shops of Liverpool (45 minutes), visit the Tudor manor at Rufford Old Hall (15 minutes) or take a heritage ride on the West Lancashire Light Railway (25 minutes).
