Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The site is quiet with a lovely family vibe. The owners are so friendly, welcomed us and showed us to our pitch. They are on hand for anything you need (we borrowed an extension as our hookup wouldn't reach). Beautiful walks by the river, big field to let our dog off lead.
Big spacious pitch-we were in the orchard which was lovely (just 3 pitches) and close to the toilets and wash up area.
A small park which is great for younger kids and plenty room to play in front of your tents.

Disliked: Couldn't find anything we disliked, even booked to go back to stay in a camping pod in 3 weeks time!

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: Location and setting in beautiful farm in gentle valley of the river Eden.
Pitch was large , flat and lush green grass and plenty of room (5m) between units.
Very child friendly (I would love to take my grandchildren) , clean facilities and small honesty shop. Fresh bacon burgers sold from the farmhouse on Sunday morning.

Tipi (no pets)

Liked: This was an amazing campsite. The whole site was beautiful, incredibly clean and very homely, with lovely touches, such as vases of flowers in the bathrooms and home made cakes in the honesty shop.
My tepee was huge, it definitely would fit at least two double air beds, with plenty of space for luggage etc. Each pitch was well spaced out, feeling private, with lovely views.
I loved seeing the lambs and hearing the sheep and birds.
I was really made to feel welcome and cared for.
I loved tending my fire pit and keeping warm as the night drew in.
If I had stayed longer I would have definitely gone for a swim in the river at the end of the pitch, or in the heated open air pool close by.
I really hope to return, either with my sisters and nieces, or my wild swimming friends!

Camping pod (family)

Liked: The campsite was spacious and clean, I loved the old buildings. Kitchen appliances provided in communal area (2 kettles, 2 toasters, microwave). My favourite: the hot water in every tap including one for dirty boots and paws. Kids loved the playground.

Disliked: Lack of lights in the night on the path with steeps, low oak branches and exposed roots. Torch is necessary.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: The site was lovely, great pitches and the areas were sectioned off so although there were plants of people staying it didn’t feel crowded or squashed.
The toilet, shower and washing up facilities were clean, tidy and of good quality. Nice extra touches including access to kettles, a microwave, fridges and freezers all made camping life a little easier.
The owners were super friendly and very smiley and helpful.
It was a good location to explore Penrith and Carlisle from as well.

Disliked: Nothing

Local attractions

Heavenly Eden Valley walks are right on the doorstep from Mains Farm Camping and Caravan Site, from ambles to (the pubs at) Lazonby, to a hike along the River Eden to see Lacy's Caves... and then on to Little Salkeld and the Bronze Age stone circle of Long Meg and her Daughters. Ramble to the north of Little Salkeld to see the Eden Lacy Viaduct over the River Eden, one of a couple of dozen viaducts on the 72-mile journey of the Carlisle to Settle Railway (jump on at Lazonby and Kirkoswald railway station to puff north west to Carlisle or south to Settle). Going north for the day – actually, allow at least two – Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish border are around 40 minutes’ drive away.
