Shepherd's hut

  • Adults-only luxury shepherd's hut on a Cumbria working farm
  • Beach five minutes' walk; 15 minutes' drive to southern Lake District
  • Kingsize bed, firepit and wood-fired hot tub; dogs welcome
When you fancy a walk from the shepherd’s hut at Guards Farm Hidden Huts, you’ll face a choice – should you take the short five-minute stroll out to the local beach, or turn the other way for an equally lovely wander on the moors? If that sounds like the sort of dilemma you could probably cope with, plot a stay at this cosy and luxurious adults-only glamping hut in the Cumbria countryside about five minutes’ drive south of Kirkby-in-Furness. Although kids aren’t allowed here, dogs are very welcome. As well as having a couple of lovely places within walking distance, this location is also handily placed for jaunts into the Lake District National Park – the southern edge of the park is about 15 minutes’ drive away for walks and other outdoor activities. The town of Ulverston is handily also about 15 minutes’ drive away for shops, pubs and places to eat. Before you do any of that, of course, you’ll have to manage to get yourselves off site – and that could well prove to be tricky, as it’s very easy to feel settled here. For starters, this is a working farm so you’ll have a whole lot of livestock to greet before you go anywhere. And you’ll also no doubt have to dedicate some time to looking out of the window at the stunning views. The hut’s setup is equally enticing – it’s got a kingsize bed, a sofa and a TV for chillout time, an ensuite bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen (with a fridge, induction hob and handcrafted solid oak worktop). Outside, there’s a seating area with firepit and griddle, and the crowning glory: a gorgeous wood-fired hot tub.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: Unbelievably relaxing place, as soon as we got there and unpacked we could tell it was going to be the best pod/glamping stay we’ve done so far. And it really was the hut is so well renovated to a high standard you feel like you’re in a hotel room.
Hot tub is great, the firepit and the massive fenced area for the dogs to run wild.

Wi-Fi was spot on, Smart TV for all the TV at bed time really cosy bed.

The only issue I had was the we only stayed for 2 nights we left feeling like we could have done 3 or 4

Emma and Paul such lovely hosts made us feel really welcome and comfortable.

Disliked: Nothing at all!!!!!

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: What a special place! The most gorgeous surroundings and views; peaceful, tranquil and quiet; the hut itself is clean, cosy, modern and full of character; Paul and Emma are super welcoming and friendly. The walk to and along the beach was stunning but we didn't venture out apart from that as we didn't need to! Just sitting outside the hut in the sun, using the BBQ and hot tub was enough for us.
This was the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. We will definitely be back and will 100% recommend this to everyone.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: This has to be the best shepards hut we've ever stayed in. Everything was done to perfection. The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and made it extra special for my Mom's birthday with the lovely birthday banners, balloon and buckfizz. All the little touches that made it a dream break! The scenery is breath taking, especially sitting in the hottub watching the sunset. We will definitely be back. Thank you Emma & Paul x

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: Well what do I say about this amazing little gem. The shepherd's hut is the best we've ever stayed in .The hut is decorated beautifully and has everything you need for your stay, smart tv, lovely little kitchen area with all you need and the breakfast bar over looking the field. The bathroom was modern and shower was lovely and hot.

Outside the hut is a lovely little space. Our neighbours the sheep/lambs were very entertaining. We used the fire pit bbq to make tea and the Hot tub was amazing. Used it every night of our 3 nights stay.

Emma ,Paul and Libby were so welcoming. They gave great information about the local area and even allowed me the feed the lambs another little highlight of our stay.

Needless to say we will defo be returning and highly recommend.

Disliked: Having to leave

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: This was our second stay at Guard's Farm and it was just as perfect as the first. We cannot fault the accommodation or hosts. Emma and Paul are very welcoming and helpful. The shepherds hut is delightful, it has everything you could need and is superbly comfortable.
This time we visited Ulverston which was less than a 20 minute drive away. We did a glass blowing workshop at Cumbria Crystal and went for tapas at L'al Churrasco, both of which were fabulous. Emma and Paul are super knowledgeable about the area and happy to give any recommendations of things to do nearby as well.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: What a fantastic hut and location, could not have picked a better spot to have a relaxing weekend with a bit of exploring around the southern lakes. Hut is so comfortable and with an enclosed outside area for the dog this ticked all our boxes. Emma and Paul are wonderful friendly hosts and make you feel at home. The added bonus of the wood fired hot tub and short walk to the local beach gives you the perfect excuse to either relax or go off and explore the local countryside.

Disliked: Coming home, need to return.
