Wasdale campsite nestles under the Scafell mountain range at the head of beautiful Wastwater, the deepest lake in England, with its distinctive Nordic character and the pyramidal peak of Great Gable reflected in its waters. This stunning place is attractive for its remoteness and utter peace. The dramatic landscape will inspire the most adventurous outdoor enthusiast. England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, is within striking distance from Wasdale Campsite as are many other high fell walking routes.

Route directions

By car: Wasdale Head is reached from the main A595. From the South, turn right at Holmrook for Santon Bridge and follow signs up to Wasdale Head. From the north, turn left at Gosforth. If you have plenty of time and fancy a challenge, why not leave your car at Great Langdale Campsite and enjoy a spectacular day's hike over to Wasdale and stay the night before returning the next day? Visit LDNP or Wasdale Mountain Rescue Safety Page for mountain safety advice. By train: There is a four mile mountain walk from Irton and Dalegarth stations on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Visit www.ravenglass-railway.co.uk for more details (NB - greatly reduced timetable in winter).
