  • Simple, spacious and dog-friendly pitches on a working farm
  • A 20-minute drive to Hadrian's Wall; 30 mins to Newcastle upon Tyne
  • Just over a mile from Hedley on the Hill and its award-winning pub
Take off to Tyne and Wear for a stay at a place that’s peaceful, secluded and surrounded by splendid landscapes… Tyne View Camping, just over a mile from the pretty village of Hedley on the Hill, is part of a working farm where David and family look forward to welcoming guests to their lovely little patch of the countryside. As the name suggests, there are fabulous views out over the Tyne Valley from the pitches – and there’s often plenty to look at by night too, as this is a great dark-sky area for stargazing. In keeping with the rural setting, things have been kept simple on site – you’ll have access to a water tap and toilets, but please note there are no showers. There’s oodles of space to play with too, so kids and dogs can have a good old run around and you’ll have space to set your pitch up just how you like it. That may well include bringing along a barbecue or firepit for a bit of outdoor cooking – both are permitted here, and you can pick up supplies at the shops in Prudhoe (10 minutes’ drive). Alternatively, you may well like to take a walk into Hedley on the Hill for dinner at an award-winning gastropub. As for non-meal-related outings, there are plenty of places nearby for a woodland walk, along with a couple of golf clubs and a gliding club. Hadrian’s Wall, Newcastle upon Tyne and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are all close by too, so there’s potential to create a break packed with variety if you want to…

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Beautiful view, both brothers who runs it are really awesome and super friendly. Toilets are regularly cleaned. Fresh water available. It is more like wild camping with toilets experience which is great. Vehicles can be parked next to the tents which is a massive bonus.

Disliked No soap in the toilets.

Local attractions

Keeping it all on an outdoor-activity theme, you may like to plan strolls through nearby Chopwell Woodland Park (10 minutes' drive) or more extensive hikes through the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s also fishing and sailing at Derwent Reservoir (15 minutes) and golf at Garesfield Golf Club and Stocksfield Golf Club (both five minutes) – or you could head over the road to Northumbria Gliding Club (10 minutes’ walk) to see it all from the sky. Mixing up hiking and heritage is easily done, too – head to the Hadrian’s Wall Path or stop off in top spots like Corbridge Roman Town (20 minutes’ drive) and Vindolanda (35 minutes). Beamish, the Living Museum of the North (25 minutes) gives you an insight into a different era. For a real change of scenery, head into the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne (half an hour) to see the Tyne Bridge, go underground at Victoria Tunnel and cross the Millennium Bridge for culture at the Sage Gateshead and Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
