  • Luxury glamping site in secluded Northumberland National Park
  • A 50-minute drive to Hadrian’s Wall Path; an hour to Alnwick Castle
  • Cleverly equipped wooden pods with TV, cooker, decking and firepit
Gorgeous wooden pods in an equally gorgeous corner of North East England: Wild Northumberland Glamping is a place with spectacular views over the Cheviot Hills, and there’s room for the kids at this family-run spot in Northumberland National Park. And what a spot… No detail is forgotten in deluxe wooden pods decked out with just about everything you might need – a smart kitchenette with hob, microwave and fridge (plates, pans and cutlery are included too), plus a queensize bed, sofa beds and a well-equipped ensuite bathroom with shower. Bed linen and towels are provided, as well as a TV for those moments of downtime. Remote it may be, but this site is a handy base for adventures across Northumberland. Round and about, there's direct access to moorland hikes in Kielderhead National Nature Reserve. Further afield, head north to Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish border, go west to the Lakes or east to North Sea beaches (they're all within an hour’s drive). Add castles, nature reserves and stately mansions to the mix and you should never struggle for something to do. Back at your luxurious little base, firepits and wood are also provided for nights of barbecuing on the decking. And as Northumberland has some of the darkest skies in the country, stargazers have much to look forward to on crystal-clear nights. A handy tip: the night sky is even more impressive when seen from Kielder Observatory, less than 50 minutes’ away.

Local attractions

Hikers can access the moors straight from the pods. A two-hour yomp up to Hareshaw Linn Waterfall (20 minutes’ drive) is certainly worth it for the chance to spot rare red squirrels, while hardened hill walkers might like to head for the heathland and blanket bogs of Whitelee Moor National Nature Reserve (30 minutes). You can also pick up the coast-to-coast Hadrian’s Wall Path at Brampton (50 minutes). Other outdoorsy pursuits you might like to consider include cycling, zip lining or horse riding in Kielder Water and Forest Park (45 minutes). Practise your swing at Bellingham Golf Club (20 minutes) or challenge the kids on the fairways at Mapping Mini Golf (40 minutes). And talking of kids, chances are a visit to Alnwick Castle (an hour) will be a priority for would-be Harry Potters, so they can nose around film locations and the delightfully named Poison Garden. Other impressive buildings worth ticking off your list include Victorian Cragside (45 minutes) with its madcap interiors and forest walks.
