One look at the green riverside location at Brompton Caravan Park and it shouldn’t be hard to understand why this place is just as suitable for family outings as it is for a couple's getaway. On the banks of the pretty Swale river, this peaceful family-run North Yorkshire site is surrounded by scenic countryside for laidback strolls. Get your rods at the ready, too, as guests are very welcome to unwind by fishing on the banks of the Swale. The site is handily placed between Richmond and Brompton on Swale, two Yorkshire locations with characterful pubs and restaurants. Market towns, historic properties, waterfalls, museums and walking trails are all within a short drive of the site, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise once you spot that it’s only four miles from the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and around 20 miles from the North Pennines National Landscape. Which will you track down first: waterfalls or historic sites? For the former, Richmond Falls (10 minutes’ drive away) is one of the most popular walks in the Richmond area – only three miles long – or you could head to the three waterfalls at Aysgarth Falls (35 minutes’ drive away), a little way into the Yorkshire Dales. For historic sites, you only need to head to Richmond to browse the Green Howards Museum or catch a show at Georgian Theatre Royal, built in 1788. Raby Castle and Newby Hall are within a 35-minute drive of the site, the first with a 200-acre deer park and a 14th-century castle, and the second with a miniature steam train that’s sure to make the kids shout 'choo-choo'.

Ben was very welcoming and even assisted when changing the gas bottle which was available to purchase on site - a positive not having to locate a supplier in an unfamiliar area.
Toilets large and spotless with good showers
We will visit site again.

Liked Riverside location.
The one safe walk away from the site is quite a nice walk although you need to be reasonably sure of foot.

Disliked Cold showers and no heating in the shower block. Cleaning of the shower block at 09:20 is very badly timed.
The only way to safely walk away from site is through fields via a public right of way.
Lack of local information available on arrival.

Liked We stayed in the camping cabin but it wouldn't let me choose that on this form.
Beautiful location, right on the river so my son could fish his heart out and I can imagine when it's warmer weather its wonderful for a paddle. Lovely pebble beach area too.
Cabin was very comfy and well equipt with unexpected extras plates, cups, cutlery and a washing up bowl. There was also complimentary tea/coffee. It was super toasty with the heater too.

Liked Very clean and well kept toilets and showers were spotless also the general site was clean with no rubbish anywhere and grass well kept . Good size area for the kids to play also good park for them too . Games room was also a nice touch the kids really enjoyed it . Not a bad location with Richmond town centre a 5 minute drive down the road

Disliked If I were been picky the pitch size could be slightly bigger but not an issue

Local attractions

There are museums for all tastes in North Yorkshire. The Bowes Museum (half an hour's drive) has a huge collection of art and sculptures, as well as intricate clothes and shoes from the 17th to 20th centuries. The French château-style building is easy on the eyes, making parkland strolls a particularly fine idea too. Make your way to Beamish - The Living Museum of the North (50 minutes) to see old electric trams, a pit village and other reconstructions from 1900s life in the north of England. York may be a little further away (an hour and five minutes), but it also has lots of attractions, including the popular Jorvik Viking Centre and the historic Shambles. Waterfalls like High Force Waterfall (55 minutes) and Cotter Force will make your camera roll extra pretty. If you'd also like to snap some pics of castles and country houses, try Bolton Castle (25 minutes), where Mary Queen of Scots was once imprisoned, or Harewood House (55 minutes).
