Liked: Remote Quiet Play area Views Nice owner

Disliked: Constant smell around toilets. Could do with lighting to toilets at night and some general signage. Being picky here but a baby change would be so helpful in the shower room.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: Secluded woodland location. Peace and quiet. Clean pitches. Near to Pickering and train station.

Disliked: Facilities were a bit too cobwebby although we knew it was in a forest, and they were smaller than expected and not enough for the amount of people on site. The showers were either scalding or freezing, nothing in between. Could do with a regular service clean in general.

Unpowered grass site

Liked: Nice simple well kept site. Very peaceful in idyllic location with plentiful walks from the site. The owner was very friendly and was always available if needed. This is added to our list of sites we will return to. We can’t comment on the Wi-Fi as we came here to escape it but had a good phone signal.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: The camp was extremely well kept, beautiful surroundings. Lorraine couldn't do enough for me and my son. The trail.on the way to the toilets/ showers was very cute! Showers were lovely and hot, ( £1, 50p needed) and no time limit from what I could tell. There's a lovely trail to walk along through he farmers field, full of hares, rabbits, quail ( I think) and even caught sight of a deer. Perfect peaceful stay. I'll definitely come back next year.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: A lovely family and friendly feel to the site, clean and well maintained, lovely secluded location.

Disliked: Dislike is too stronger word but would just say things that would make the site that bit better is holes probably made by people in the wetter weather could be filled in as we did trip over a few times, bins would be great instead of having to take away rubbish but we knew this before arriving.

Please note that YO18 7JW is the best postcode, but when your satnav says you have reached your destination you should carry on up the road for half a mile and then bear right, heading over the speed bumps. This will take you directly to the site, which is located at the very end of the road. The owner may not be on the site all of the time. If they are not there upon your arrival, please do not turn into the wooden drive gates but continue along the road to campsite gate where there will be a board with instructions on.

Local attractions

There's quite a bit to do in the old market town of Pickering, a four- or five-mile walk away: as well as plenty of shops and its Monday market, people also come to see its castle, the Beck Isle Museum and the medieval wall paintings at Pickering Church. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (possibly the busiest steam heritage line in the world, trainspotters) starts from Pickering on its beaut run through the moors to Grosmont. Haugh Rigg Farm has peeps pitching up in an area with plenty of coastal opps too: Flamingo Land is eight miles away, Helmsley 18 and Scarborough 20; if you're off to the coast you'll also likely like a look around Dracula, James Cook and goth centre Whitby.
