  • Quiet tent pitches in a secure paddock in the Nidderdale AONB
  • A mile and a half to Pateley Bridge; Brimham Rocks 15 minutes' drive
  • On-site animal sanctuary; far-reaching views over Yorke's Folly
Set deep in the green countryside of Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this peaceful Yorkshire site is just the place for relaxed rural breaks. A mile and a half from the shops, cafés and pubs of Pateley Bridge and just a quarter of an hour's drive from Brimham Rocks, Moorview Farm is in a great location too – one that you're welcome to come and explore with your dog (if you've got one). Animal life is all around at this Yorkshire farm – there's a sanctuary on site where you can meet Monty the pig, Luna and Willow the goats, Paddy and Oreo the donkeys and lots of other furry friends. Moorview Farm also has free-range hens. There are a fair few facilities for humans here too, including a cold-water shared kitchen area with a fridge and electric charging points. One toilet is available too, but on the whole the farm is fairly off-grid and you'll need to bring your own drinking water. For exercise, head to the heritage trail that's directly accessible from site, perhaps stopping to admire views over Yorke's Folly along the way. Can't find what you're looking for in Pateley Bridge? Worry not, as Moorview Farm is within about half an hour's drive of Skipton, Ripon and Harrogate.

Local attractions

Geology fans have it good around here – as well as the big crags at Brimham Rocks (15 minutes' drive), Moorview Farm is within easy reach of the spectacular Stump Cross Caverns (15 minutes). Other remarkable natural landmarks like lofty Malham Cove (an hour) and Gaping Gill, the largest underground chamber in Britain (an hour and 15 minutes) are a little further away but well worth the journey. Equally, you could make for North Yorkshire's more manicured landscapes, like the fab scenery at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal (25 minutes) or the hillside gardens at Parcevall Hall (20 minutes). There are ponds and lakes aplenty too – Thruscross Reservoir (15 minutes) will please anglers with its coarse and fly fishing and far-reaching views over the Washburn Valley, while Malham Tarn (an hour) has birdwatching opportunities and a boardwalk. For trips to town, take the waters at Harrogate (30 minutes), an elegant spa spot, or make tracks to Ripon's gorgeous cathedral and museums (30 minutes). Skipton Castle (30 minutes) is also sure to be on the agenda – keep an eye out for its rare shell grotto.

2 bedroom rental tent

Liked: The open space for the dog was great, in the village theirs a nice play park for kids but it’s abit of a walk downhill on the way steep uphill walking back

Disliked: The tent has been stood in all weathers for who knows how long it leaked in badly and then the porch top ripped in the wind it took two hours of asking to have it covered which meant we had to cook in the make shift kitchen which wasn’t ideal at all the water ran cold for the pots the lights didn’t work on the outside of the toilet area so you nearly broke your neck on the steps, the ground was all uneven under the tent which meant we was slipping and and tripping up their was no inner tent and when it rained it poured through we left early due to all the beds sleeping bags and pillows being wet through and nowhere to shelter to cook out of the winds the lady wasn’t their at the time and we have been told we will receive two night stay money back but yet to be contacted about it, my sons come back with over 60 bites to his head having animals are on the farm it definitely attracts the insects but we was more disappointed with the state of the tent but was told it was left their previously and so they just rented it out the guide lines was all loose on arrival theirs ruffing it and then theirs this tent beyond ruffing it nice enough place but no up keep to the tent at all. Let’s see if we get two nights refund back for the inconvenience of the whole nightmare

2 bedroom rental tent

Liked: Fantastic site. Beautifully scenic and the owners Joanne and Paul were fantastic, so welcoming and friendly. Myself and my husband took our son (12) and his friend and they had an amazing time exploring and interacting with the animals. The tent was perfect and was great to get there and it to be put up so could start enjoying the surroundings immediately. There was a fire pit with some wood supplied, which the boys loved. The toilet and fridge were really close and very clean.
