  • Well-maintained dog-friendly site in the North Yorkshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to the North York Moors; 50 minutes to the coast
  • Access to cycling and walking routes; pub and shops nearby
Pack your walking boots, gather your cycling gear and don’t forget your binoculars for the family-friendly Cherry Tree Park. Sitting cosily between the Howardian Hills and the North York Moors, this well-maintained family-friendly site is well based for walks and cycling through moors and forests or visits to historic halls and castles nearby… simply put, the hardest task will be plotting out your route, as this level-grounded base is a peaceful walker’s paradise. If you can’t bear to leave your dog behind, it's good to know that dogs and pets are welcome on site. For walkies time, take full advantage of the local footpaths – there are several cycling and walking routes nearby (along with more adventurous tracks between the trunks at Dalby Forest, 45 minutes’ drive). And handily, the coast is also within reach. So, if you have a taste for the pleasures of seaside (within 50 minutes’ drive), you can dedicate a day to the beach and harboursides. At the end of the day, freshen up using the toilet and shower block on site (there's an extra water point on hand if you need it). For eating out, there’s a fish and chip shop, an Indian restaurant and a pub within 10 minutes’ walk. And for anything else you need, the market towns of Helmsley and Kirkbymoorside have more amenities within five minutes’ drive.

What customers say

Well-kept, quiet campsite with roomy, flat sites and great hosts. Clean loos and showers, but some reckon more's needed when busy. Handy spot for sights. A few heard dogs barking, some found sites or facilities a bit close/grubby. Good value, lots would come back.

Liked Open plan, warm welcome, location was lovely. Value.
Loved that everyone was mixed in, motorhomes, caravans, tents. No hierarchy...loved that everyone was pitched around the main grass area. It was a breath of fresh air to see kids playing football, rounders and other games till late into the sunny hours.
A lovely family site, if you are a lovely family.
Drunks with barbecues appeared absent. Long may that continue.

Disliked Nothing....it was a lovely experience.

Liked Friendly greeting on arrival to an allocated pitch.
Pre-prepared envelopes full of coins for the showers for you to buy and add onto your card payment.
Showers were good with good water pressure and the ability to pick your own temperature and not continually keep pressing a button. Yes there are only two, so pick a quieter time than first thing in the morning to have your shower on a busy bank holiday weekend.
Nice pub nearby with good beer and good food - be prepared that they can stop serving food at 8pm tho so get there early enough.
Great Indian takeaway nearby.
Lovely walks nearby.
We normally go for adults only quiet sites but the kids who all joined in together with frisbee and football in the middle of the field were incredibly entertaining - apologies to anyone who wanted a quiet night for our enthusiastic cheering. Everyone stopped at quiet time and went to bed.

Disliked Nothing to dislike really.
There was an occasional countryside whiff - but it is in a village surrounded by farmers fields.
There were reports of howling hounds on other reviews. I never heard it, my other half heard it in the distance when he woke in the night to go for a pee but it certainly didn’t stop him getting back to sleep.
My friend who arrived the night before us said the toilet blocks were very basic ‘in a hut’ but given the price we paid to stay they were absolutely fine. Clean, flushing loos, with loo roll and soap, lit up on an evening. Hand dryer was a bit rubbish so I guess that’s the thing to dislike?

Liked Lovely campsite, with friendly owners.
Nice pub a ten minute walk away and a curry house just up the road from the pub.

Disliked More showers are needed. There was only 2 to service the whole campsite.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Very friendly and helpful, plot was well positioned. Facilities were clean.

Disliked Early hours of the morning there were a large number of dogs barking from what appeared from a neighbouring property. One visitor didn’t respect the 10am quieten down rule and was still playing music at 1am

Local attractions

Revel in nature’s own adventure grounds at the North York Moors National Park (20 minutes' drive), where there are merlins and other moorland birds to be spotted as you traverse the trails across woodlands and moors. The Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes) also has a splendid landscape with old mills and gorges. For a turn towards manmade wonders, there are hands-on tours and exhibitions at Helmsley Castle (10 minutes) and a very pleasant organic garden and scenic manor house at the National Trust site, Nunnington Hall (10 minutes). Elsewhere, Rievaulx Abbey (10 minutes) has both riveting ruins and a museum to explore. If you fancy an escape to the seashore, Whitby (50 minutes) and Scarborough (55 minutes) each have beaches for a bit of bucket-and-spade time, plus promenade strolls and boats for fishing or sailing. The Flamingo Land Resort (20 minutes) is another worthy stop on your way around… entertain your wild side at the zoo or on the theme park rides.
