Camping

  • Secluded wild camping with spectacular views of the Yorkshire Wolds
  • A 15-minute drive to Malton; 30 minutes to Flamingo Land
  • Part of an organic working farm with access to footpath and Wolds Way
It may not be as well-known as the Yorkshire Dales or the North York Moors, but those in the know will be aware that the Yorkshire Wolds is an area that’s just as enticing for walks and other outdoor activities (and it’s generally less busy too…) On the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds is Brown Moor Farm, an organic working farm with livestock including sheep and free-range hens. Pitch up at this rural site and you’ll have access to several local footpaths at the bottom of the dale, with a link to the Wolds Way too. There are plenty of cycle routes around if you prefer to tour on two wheels – and some spectacular country views to gaze out at once you’re safely back on site in the evening (with secure lockable cycle storage available on request so your bike can have a rest). The camping field faces south east for some great sunrises and has simple facilities in the form of a toilet block (cleaned daily), waste water facilities and a fresh water supply. Bottled water can be made available on request for a small charge. Pitches have a slight incline and in parts are uneven; they are on grass and chalkland, so you’ll need to wear suitable footwear around the site. They’re dark by night too, so bring along a torch. Dogs are welcome, but are to be kept on leads at all times. Barbecues are permitted but must be raised off the ground (blocks can be supplied on request). There are several pubs within a few miles for drinks and food; more options are up in Malton, 15 minutes’ drive away, along with shops for self-catering supplies.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked: Beautiful views from everywhere on the field. We parked up and were greater by some hens which the girls loved and then followed the sign through the little woods to find the most beautiful view of the valley! It’s a basic site but honestly the view can’t be beaten. Even being in a shed, the toilet was clean. The girls loved seeing the ponies in the field next to us and watching the cows walk along the fence line in the other neighbouring field. The owners were also very friendly! My pictures don’t do the location justice. There isn’t much light pollution either so the stars were amazing, my husband even saw a shooting star.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked: We had an excellent time here, upon arrival we met the lady owner who showed us to the camp area, very helpful and the views from the camp site are beautiful, it is a very quiet site with some beautiful short trails into the surrounds, the toilet in the shed is an excellent idea and is kept clean, take a peg hammer and suitable pegs with you it can be pretty tough ground in places but this wasn't a problem, I loved the small woodland area you go thru before arriving at the site and the views again were very impressive such a beautiful part of the world.. We will definetly be back.. There is a trolley at the carpark to make use of taking your camping gear to your pitch we really liked that idea aswell.. Absolute delight to have spent 2 nights here..

Disliked: Nothing

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked: The site was just as advertised, with beautiful views and nearby walks. It was very quiet during the night, perfect for a peaceful getaway.

Disliked: The only downside is that all pitches are on a slope, however this is disclosed when booking and wasn’t a massive issue for us.

Liked: View Welcome from staff Directions on route Info provided on day

Disliked: Ground can be hard and rocky in places so bring extra pegs. £25 per night for a site with a single toilet and no shower or standpipe feels like a lot

From the manager: THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS. WE DO SUGGEST BRINGING HARD GROUND PEGS AND THIS IS STATED IN THE GENERAL INFO. THERE IS ALSO A FREE STANDING WATER SUPPLY NEXT TO THE TOILET. £25.00 PER NIGHT WAS THE TARRIFF FOR BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked: Its a great little site , with only basic amenities, that was never a problem for us. having said that the toilet and wash facilities were excellent. The site has the most beautiful views of the plains of the Yorkshire Wolds. I am very well aquanted with the area but was still amazed by how lovely the views were. I found the owners to be very friendly and more than happy to help with any of our needs. The main thing that i did like was just how quiet it really was , other than the odd noise from sheep or cows on the farm there was nothing

Disliked: Nothing really dislike i think next time i will put a little more thought into setting up the tent as there is a slope in the field. Owner said the ground is hard or stoney but i did not have any problems inserting a spike into the ground.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked: Absolutely gorgeous rural campsite with divine views and plenty of cows and sheep. Greeted upon arrival with a lovely tx and some friendly chickens. Quaint little walk down to the field and wheel barrows are provided to transport your camping gear. We set up further down the field where its a bit flatter as the campsite itself is on a hill. We stayed during a storm and it was really fun and romantic! Donation box for eggs was a delight for breakfast and we loved the clean onsite wash room. In the morning the campsite owner came to greet us which was a really lovely touch to our stay. We will definitely be back with the children. Francesca and Martin 🙏🏻
