Explores of the Yorkshire Dales on your agenda? Do it in style with a stay in a luxury glamping pod, where you can admire the pretty views from the comfort of a sizzling hot tub… bliss. That’s the deal at Wensleydale Glamping Pods, a family-friendly site on a family-run farm in Redmire, 10 minutes’ drive from Leyburn. The luxury timber pods have been built locally and, as a nod to the local area, they are all named after Yorkshire Dales: Wensleydale, Bishopdale and Swaledale. They’re a cosy affair, with sheep’s wool insulation in the roof cavity keeping the pods snuggly in the winter and reflecting heat during summer. And there’s underfloor heating, too, because warm tootsies are welcome whatever the season. The kitchenette has got a fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and induction hob, as well as a selection of pots, pans, crockery and utensils, so you only need to provide the food… and cook it, of course. There’s a foldaway table and chairs so you can eat your creations in comfort, and a picnic bench outside if you’d prefer to tuck in while admiring the views. As for sleeping arrangements, there’s a double bed and sofa bed, while the ensuite has a shower, toilet and sink (linen and towels provided). You’ll have free wifi and a TV/DVD player, and there’s a communal area with a collection of DVDs and board games for entertaining nights in. Outside, there are some optional extras to take your hols to the next level, with a hot tub, firepit and barbecue all available to hire (go on, treat yourself).

Bishopdale camping pod

Liked: Lovely spot with great views. Facilities are superb, everything you need in a pod. Owners were friendly & helpful

Disliked: The outdoor space could be a little more when I have a boy who is keen to run around however I understand it’s a working farm. It didn’t hamper our fun & we’d definitely return

Local attractions

Wensleydale Glamping is right outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so walkers and cyclists will be in their element with plenty of countryside to cover. There’s an OS map in your pod, and a boot washing point and storage box on site, so it’s a cinch to get treks underway. If you’d prefer to roam on wheels, Redmire is on the 130-mile Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, which ticks off most of the major dales. Combine explores with local sights, including Redmire Force waterfall, Aysgarth Falls and the 14th-century Bolton Castle (all within 10 minutes’ drive). Slightly further afield, an amble around the ruins of Jervaulx Abbey (20 minutes) is another fine choice, and there’s a tearoom on site for a little treat, too. For kid-friendly trips, take a ride on Wensleydale Railway (five minutes), or get to grips with The Forbidden Corner’s labyrinth of tunnels, chambers and follies among a four-acre garden (20 minutes). And a visit to Wensleydale should really involve a stop at Wensleydale Creamery (half an hour) for cheese-making demonstrations, the viewing gallery and museum… and a taste of the good stuff, obviously.
