Looking towards thoralby from the site

  • Among spectacular scenery in the Yorkshire Dales National Park
  • Within walking distance of West Burton and Thoralby villages
  • Next door to a 17th-century inn serving food and local beers
Now these are views… head here with the camera for scenes right up any holidaymaker’s street: Street Head Caravan Park, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is in an area famous for its scenery and unspoilt countryside, and is surrounded by grazing countryside with dales views across to the fells beyond. Roll up here to take in the local walks and wildlife – you can walk up and down dales and over moorland from the site – or use Street Head as a base for exploring the wider Yorkshire Dales, the north-east and north-west coasts and the loveliness of the Lake District. This is a place where you could certainly settle for a few days, as there are plenty of handy facilities: the park has free hot showers, toilets and an indoor washing-up room with a fridge, freezer and tourist information. Street Head Caravan Park is in the valley of Bishopdale and has five pubs and restaurants within a few miles. The nearest, the 17th-century Street Head Inn, is very handily placed next door to the park offices for meals and local brews. A shop and a butcher are at West Burton about a mile and a half away, where there is also a traditional pub serving drinks and snacks all day as well as lunches and dinners. It’s also home to the Cauldron Falls (a popular swimming spot in the summer months), a play area and a café.

Liked We had a fantastic stay at this campsite. The facilities were excellent, and the pitches were level with a thoughtful staggered layout that offered a bit more privacy between neighbors — a really nice touch. The entire site was extremely clean and well maintained throughout our stay.

The shower and toilet block was immaculate and well stocked every time we used it. Although we didn’t use the washing-up area, it looked just as spotless as the rest of the site.

The surrounding area is peaceful and quiet, making it a great spot for a relaxing getaway.

We’d also heard good things about the pub next door, and it didn’t disappoint. During our visit, they were holding their annual festival, complete with a BBQ, marquee, and live music. Despite the festivities, we couldn’t hear any noise from our tent, which was ideal. The food was excellent, and it added a great atmosphere to the trip.

Liked The shower and kitchen facilities were well maintained with easy access at all times.
The tent pitch was marked with our name and no issues in setting up and had a nice shadowy area out of the sun.

Disliked Close to the main road so noise from the passing vehicles.
Could do with a shop for provisions as nearest town with a decent shop was 8 miles away.

Liked Fabulous site. Love the fact that they were mindful of where I needed to be to exercise my dogs and was close to facilities as was on my own. Fabulous amenities and spotlessly clean. Fabulous pub next door which does an amazing breakfast. Will definitely be going back 😁

Powered concrete slab caravan site (maximum 7 metres)

Liked Beautiful and clean a nice size size with not too many spaces so not overcrowded and would accommodate you for arrival time past the standard 7pm.
Very welcome and friendly owners will definitely visit again

Disliked Wasn’t sure if there was WiFi and signal on your phone wasn’t good but don’t think the signal had anything to do with the site just due to rural location

Local attractions

There are plenty of places within walking distance of Street Head Caravan Park: West Burton (five minutes’ drive) has been described as one of the loveliest villages in England and has a well-kept village green leading to the natural waterfall of West Burton Cauldron. The waterfall flows downstream into the River Ure to reach the famous Aysgarth Falls (10 minutes), a favourite haunt of writer Wordsworth and painters Turner and Ruskin; the National Parks Information Centre here has guides to local hikes, guided walks and activities like climbing and caving. The area around Street Head has miles of signposted footpaths for dale, moor and village-to-village strolls too. The dales town of Hawes (20 minutes) has an intriguing set of antique shops as well as a clutch of museums of local life, while hilltop Leyburn (15 minutes) is a walking hub with a mix of cafés, pubs and fine-dining restaurants. Elegant Richmond (half an hour) is known for its castle and Georgian Theatre Royal, one of the oldest theatres in the UK. Kids with you? Take them to be bamboozled at the pyramid, passages and tunnels of The Forbidden Corner in Coverdale (20 minutes), an ever-growing folly probably best described as ‘delightfully bonkers’.
