  • In the mature parkland of a listed Georgian mansion
  • At the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales
  • Spectacular scenery across local farmland
Welcome to Constable Burton Hall Caravan Park, set in the gorgeous mature parkland of the Grade I-listed Georgian mansion Constable Burton Hall. In a stunning spot behind the walls of its old deer park, it has handsome views across peaceful local farmland. Constable Burton Hall Caravan Park is at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, at the entry to Wensleydale and near the market towns of Leyburn and Middleham medieval village: think cheese, shopping and heaps of history. Both Jervaulx Abbey and Richmond Castle are within six miles, and there’s a Good Pub Guide emporium on the doorstep, the wonderful 18th-century tavern Wyvill Arms (have a Rudgate Ruby Mild over a game of chess and under a summer parasol). This is a seriously serene site in a spot of spectacular scenery, yet close enough to everything for twitchy types who might fancy shopping, hiking, adventure sports or family days out. It’s also an ideal stopover for explorers from the south of England on their way to the Lake District and Scotland.

Liked Lovely clean and well peaceful, very well maintained site. The hosts were lovely people, well informative. The site was opposite a pub and right outside was a bus stop. Dog Walk, showers and toilets were very clean, showers were hot. Will 100% be back.

Liked Quiet site, very friendly staff and good clean facilities

Disliked Nothing much around and nothing on the website to say no ball games so when we got there we were limited on keeping the kids amused WiFi also didn’t show up on any devices where were were

From the manager: thank you for your comments, it has (no ball games) in the booking terms and conditions, I will see if pitchup can put it on the front page somewhere to make it more visible and thank you for letting me know about the wifi I will look into this.
thanking you

Liked Lovely quiet site, plenty of room on pitches although chocks are needed. Toilet and showers nice, clean and hot. Nice pub over the road, the road is busy with no paths into the village and we normally go for long walks but we had a lovely chilled weekend instead. Wi-Fi and TV reception excellent. Hosts there to meet us, very nice and friendly.

Liked Shower block was clean and hot showers, well maintained.

Disliked To quiet, mostly residential caravans, like a gost town. On arrival after 5 hours travelling, host ignored us and continued painting, quite rude.

Perfect for stopover but for more than a night you will need a car.

Liked Location perfect for stopover for NC500 or lake from south east. Pub literally across the road.

Disliked Rules were very strict no ball games even on big field. Dogs on lead at all times even when outside your pitch. Very small dog walk. Only there as a stopover so fine.

Local attractions

Naturally, one should stop off first at Constable Burton Hall Gardens, the woodland and formal patches surrounding 18th-century Palladian mansion Constable Burton Hall. Guided tours are available of the formal and woodland gardens, but for the hall itself, enquire in advance about a guided tour. Elsewhere close by are the market towns of Leyburn and Bedale; make your way to Leyburn on Fridays for market days and to Bedale for cobbled street Tuesday markets, the petting zoo Big Sheep Little Cow Farm and the stop on the 22-mile heritage train ride from Northallerton and Redmire. While at Bedale, there’s a nifty Heritage Trail from the local tourist information centre giving you a taste of the town’s ancient history (Bedale was mentioned in the Domesday Book), and the Thorp Perrow Arboretum is good for green-fingered and animal fans: it’s home to five National Plant Collections and has meerkats, birds of prey and wallabies among other locals. North Yorkshire in general is great for gardens, so also bloomingly recommended is The Forbidden Corner in Tupgill Park, a folly full of tunnels, ‘chambers, follies and surprises’ on a four acre site in the centre of the Yorkshire Dales. Elsewhere gardenly, go for Helmsley Walled Garden at Cleveland Way and Castle Howard in York, and for green spaces and nature reserves we insist on the grassland and meadow Leyburn Old Glebe Nature Reserve via the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, which is full of flower and hay meadows. Another must is the Yorkshire Dales National Park – for watersports, adventuring, fishing and climbing… but if that sounds too much, take off to theme park Lightwater Valley near Ripon for peaceful pursuits. And if you have delightful darlings to hand, fab family-friendly options around Leyburn and in North Yorkshire include high ropes at Aerial Extreme and quad biking at Action and Adventure, both in Bedale, or touring the caves at the nearby Stump Cross Caverns. Also have a wander around the medieval village of Middleham, the site of the leading racehorse training centre in the north of England and a pull for race goers from around the world; pick up a souvenir in one of the independent shops or have a look at medieval Middleham Castle, former home of possibly misunderstood monarch Richard 3.
