Pod 2 - the beehive
Vale view

  • Peaceful glamping retreat on a working farm in North Yorkshire
  • On the Yorkshire Wolds Way, half an hour's drive from Scarborough
  • Ensuite pods with well-equipped kitchen, TV and underfloor heating
Look at the views… Seriously. Look at the views. This smashing glampsite is up on the brow of a hill right next to the Yorkshire Wolds Way – frankly, the views really couldn’t be finer. The aptly named Wolds Walk Glamping is on a rural farm less than a mile from the village of East Heslerton, and within walking distance of a pub (as long as you have some walking left in your legs after a day's hike, that is). Should you not have any walking left in those legs, it's hardly a hardship to stick around on site and settle down with a drink by your fairy light-decked pod while waiting for the stars to come out overhead (as they do rather impressively in this area of low light pollution). Each pod has its own stargazing chart so you'll know what to look out for, and a firepit/barbecue (with a bag of logs supplied) to keep you warm as you look upwards. Beers can be kept chilled in the pod's fridge, and meals or snacks knocked up in the microwave; there's also a kettle and toaster to sort your breakfast needs. If you'd rather a cosy night in, that's sorted too: the pod has underfloor heating, a Freeview TV and wifi (plus comfy sleeping space to retreat to, of course). All refreshed and ready for more activity? As well as the Yorkshire Wolds Way itself there are plenty more places to take a walk nearby (fab news for dogs, who are welcome to join you), such as the long-distance Cleveland Way, 13 miles away on the spectacular North Yorkshire coastline. Speaking of coastline, you may like to take a day out in Scarborough (half an hour's drive away); back inland it's a 20-minute drive to Malton for a mooch around the market town.

Cosy shepherd's hut (adults only)

Liked The Shepherds Hut was a lovely place to stay, small but just right for me and my dog. Was able to step out of the accommodation and walk along the Yorkshire Wolds Way every day. Only a thirty five minute drive to the coast to visit Cayton Bay Beach.

Absolutely beautiful views we came here to get away from the fire…

Local attractions

Head coastwards for half an hour to hit the popular resort of Scarborough for all sorts of traditional seaside escapades including donkey rides, amusement arcades and rides on the classic merry-go-round at the Scarborough Fair Collection. There's also an ancient castle to explore, a fab market hall to pick up food at and a brewery for tours and takeaway beers. Elsewhere along the coast, there are seaside rambles along the Cleveland Way from Filey (25 minutes' drive) and sea birds to spot at RSPB Bempton Cliffs (35 minutes). If you're feeling brave, head up to Whitby (50 minutes), where the ancient abbey inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula. Staying inland, check out the bike trails and Go Ape adventure park in Dalby Forest or board the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Pickering for a heritage ride through the countryside. Family days out might include an outing to Flamingo Land Resort, where you can meet all sorts of characters from Peter Rabbit to a bunch of inquisitive meerkats. Each of these is around a half-hour drive away.
