  • Dog-friendly North Yorkshire site a 15-minute drive to Malton
  • Filey 20 minutes; RSPB Bempton Cliffs 35 minutes; York 40 minutes
  • Children’s playground; well-stocked bar with outdoor seating
There’s nothing snooty about The Snooty Fox, a welcoming and dog-friendly site with fully serviced touring pitches surrounded by the spectacular North Yorkshire countryside. The site sits just off the A64, a five-minute drive to the village of Sherburn and a 15-minute drive to the market town of Malton. Each gravelled pitch comes with its own well-maintained lawn, so you can relax with your feet on the grass while taking in far-reaching views of the hills and mapping out excursions in the local area. Maybe you prefer to do your planning in front of a pint of ale or a G&T – no problem, since The Snooty Fox has a well-stocked bar with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Meanwhile, chances are that the kids are already making new friends in the games room and the playground, with swings and a climbing structure with cargo nets and slides. What about games for the grown-ups? Well, there’s a couple of golf courses within a 10-minute drive and fishing at Don’s Pond (five minutes’ drive), or you can hit the wooded slopes of North Riding Forest Park (aka Dalby Forest; 25 minutes) for hiking and cycling trails. Family days at the seaside are within easy access, too: the beach at Filey (20 minutes) is a top spot for flying kites and building sandcastles, or you can head to Reighton Beach (25 minutes) to look for fossils in the cliffs. Birdwatchers have the choice of Filey Brigg (25 minutes) or RSPB Bempton Cliffs (35 minutes), part of the Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast. The site also has a toilet and shower facilities.

Liked: Fantastic pitches and the staff were so friendly and helpful the site and facilities were always clean and tidy would definitely stop here again, it is ideally located close to the coast and also for inland visits so gives best of both worlds for any type of visit

Disliked: Only downside is that it could do with more than 1 shower

Fully-serviced gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked: Good pint Clean site Friendly staff

Disliked: This site is set up for statics not tourers. Grey water drains onto the hard standing stones. No chemical toilet had to empty into an orange pipe right next to my caravan along with others doing the same. One shower and toilet is the one from the bar. WiFi really poor

Fully-serviced gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked: The staff were friendly nice bar on site , Barman was very nice. Shower and toilet was clean .Easy access for Fiely 13 miles.

Disliked: This is a new development mainly for static caravans, and using the e.pty spaces for touring, if it is going to cater for campers and toures,it needs to install pot washing facilities and may be another toilet and shower , shoer needs some hooks, and a mop to clean floor after use .

Fully-serviced gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked: The barman

Disliked: It was like camping in a gravel pit. There was nowhere beside the A64 to walk my dog.It is in the middle of nowhere so if you didn’t have a car you would be stuck.Nobody was there to meet us except a very odd man who pointed us in the direction of where he had just put £30 on the meter. When someone else came with a dog he came to tell us All dogs have to be a lead.We pointed to our dogs so he could see it didn’t belong to us.He then moaned about dog poo whilst his dog just wondered around as it liked. There is only 1 shower for the whole sight, which was just a box room added to the toilet. No mirror, extracter fan or anywhere to put your things.Only one bathroom for each sex.The ladies even had excrement on the floor.Neither had locks on the door’s or working lights. No bins for sanitary purposes.Nothing at all was wheelchair friendly. The pub/bar only opened 4 nights over the weekend. There was a tiny old looking children’s area with missing swings and not much else. There was no clear marked place for your toilet waist. No laundry or a sink in sight. The whole place was just a gravel park surrounded by farmers spreading muck. I couldn’t believe the water set up ( tap ) is attached to the grey waist pole sticking up out of the ground. There was no nature, nothing to entertain myself or my dogs.I can honestly say If I didn’t have to have stayed I would have just left. It most definitely did not live up to the hype on the internet which just shows you pay more attention to advertising rather than actually making a campsite that fits the description.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch, the park is countryside located as stated in the description when booking! The park is countryside located and surrounded by working fields with a public footpath running along side the park for lovely scenic country walks. The toilet and shower block are cleaned & checked daily with notices asking for customers to left as there have found it! Light switches for both toilets can be found on the outside wall to both toilets and are in working order. The children's play area is complete with nothing missing!

Local attractions

In addition to fragrant lavender fields and vast swathes of wildflowers, Woldies Lavender & Nature Farm (five minutes’ drive) has interactive games and guided nature trails for children, plus dog-friendly woodland walks. With pretty trails along the River Derwent, the town of Malton has become known as Yorkshire’s Food Capital thanks to its many independent restaurants, artisanal producers making all sorts of goodies (from bread to gelato), monthly markets and the Malton Food Lovers Festival, which takes place twice a year. After checking out the splendid stained-glass windows of the medieval Minster, take a stroll through the historic streets of York (40 minutes), checking out the cobbled Shambles for souvenirs. You can learn about the city’s past at the JORVIK Viking Centre or at the kid-oriented DIG: An Archaeological Adventure.
