  • Peaceful site with stunning views of the Yorkshire Wolds
  • Half an hour's drive from York and 45 minutes from Bridlington
  • Well-stocked farm shop and café on site
In need of scenic hols, with a market town just down the road and hills and beaches within easy reach… and some excellent eats to hand right on site? Travel along to The Mile Caravan Park, less than five minutes’ drive from Pocklington in East Yorkshire – this is a splendid spot for all the above. These scenic surrounds are half an hour from York and within an hour of the seaside towns and beaches of Bridlington and Scarborough; closer to home, hiking and walking trails through the scenic Yorkshire Wolds can be joined within five minutes. A riding club is 10 minutes away if peaceful horseback ambles fit the mood, and there’s a gliding club in the village when nothing will do but seeing it all from the air. Be sure to make some time for a couple of lazy site days too, as you'll surely won't want to miss out on the farm shop and Smile Café… Can’t get enough of that food? Call into the farm shop to stock up on local artisan produce including beer, cider, jam, chutney, chocolate and cheese.

Liked: Lovely level site with great facilities and a cafe and farm shop too. Our hosts were lovely and greeted us on arrival, they were on hand to provide information and advice on the local area. The site is within easy walking distance of the town with lots of cafes, restaurants and grocery stores. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend.

Disliked: None.

Liked: Fabulous location, the pitches were spacious and the site was lovely and peaceful.

Disliked: The facilities were unhygienic. The unisex toilets were not cleaned during the four days we were there, nor were the showers. I had to give the shower tray in the shower room I used, a good clean every day before I could use it, there was a lot of surface dirt to wash away. Frankly, it was an unpleasant experience. It's a shame because the shower rooms themselves are excellent. The bins in the shower facilities were almost full, as they contained sanitary products etc. I'd have thought they should be emptied every day. The facilities have been immaculate in all other sites we've booked through Pitchup so this was disappointing.

Disliked: Angry attitude towards us having fairy lights on around the camper van. Swearing in front of my young children and demanding we ‘F off the site because we can’t behave’ The residents around us were also appalled and came to see if we were ok as a family. This ‘man’ should be truly ashamed of himself. My husband has locked up politer people!

From the manager: Hi, Gemma. Firstly, I apologise for anyone swearing in front of your children. Given the time of night, I think he assumed that they would probably be asleep. He did not realise they were there, and I believe he did say sorry at the time. I just wanted to lay out the sequence of events that evening, as there are always two sides to a story. At 22.00, we received a message from one of the campers on site to say that you had plugged our festival fairy lights (which we use for weddings and events on the campsite). He said he would turn them off and just wanted to inform us to expect complaints from other campers that your party was making a lot of noise and you guys (presumably young people) were running around the campsite. At 22.04, he contacted us again to say that someone out of your party had switched them on again. So, after being switched on twice, he went outside in his pyjamas to see what was happening; he switched off the festival lights a third time. By the time he returned to the house, someone had switched them on again! Well, I think this was probably the 'straw that broke the camel's back,' so he returned to the campsite in quite a bad mood - to say that if you cannot behave, pack up and get off the site, including swear words. If you look at our reviews, 94% of people have described the campsite as a peaceful one. He wasn't expecting to go outside to the campsite at night, so yes, he did have a drink. It sounds like your husband is a policeman from your comment; I am sure he can appreciate that having people messing around near the end of his shift is incredibly frustrating, well in fact it was after his shift had finished. Yes, and we did receive verbal complaints about the noise from your party. I do hope this gives review readers a clearer view of what happened.

Liked: We have stayed before and really enjoyed the site. You cannot touch the views. Great reception, no club rules and very relaxed. The pitches are well kept with good space.

Disliked: The toilets are good, not the cleanest we have enjoyed. The price has risen quite considerably for nothing obviously other than the onsite farm shop has gone. The owner shared his political views quite strongly, this upset my wife and spoiled the experience, so customer service needs some work.

Local attractions

If long-distance routes like the Way of the Roses, the Minster Way and the Yorkshire Wolds Way are a tad too tough, there are easier wanders closer to the site. Follow the footpath that passes the site as far as Pocklington Wood (a 20-minute walk or three-minute drive) for a circular route that’s well suited to walkers, or get behind the wheel for the 10-minute trip to Millington Woods and Millington Pastures. Further slow-paced activity can be found with a day’s fishing at Conifer Lake or Allerthorpe Lakes, while those in search of something a little more energetic can stick to Allerthorpe for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, sailing and paddleboarding, and some time splashing around the inflatables in the aquapark. History buffs might get their adrenaline in a different way… Trips to the Yorkshire Air Museum and Eden Camp give an insight into life during the world wars; after that, make a stop at the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy. Craving an urban day? The museums, ghost tours, breweries and shops of York are half an hour away, and Hull’s aquarium, Old Town and Arctic Corsair museum are 40 minutes from base.
