The people of Flinton Grange Campsite have a challenge for you… to see how many of the 11 (yes, eleven) local beaches you can fit into the schedule while you're staying here. This chilled-out site between the villages of Flinton and Humberton is surrounded by green farmland and 2.5 miles from the East Yorkshire coast. Whether you choose to take a tour of the whole lot or devote yourself to just one beach you should find plenty of variety along this stretch of coastline – there are places to go fishing, take coastal walks, splash about with your dog, go birdwatching, eat fish and chips or indulge in an afternoon of traditional seaside amusements. And what if it’s not beach weather – or you just fancy a change of scenery? Well, you’ll be sorted on that front too, with both Beverley (for markets and the antiques centre) and Hull (for a clutch of family-friendly museums) within a half-hour drive. Also nearby are places to play golf, wander around country houses or get out for a good rural hike or bike ride. Pick up supplies for the grill while you’re out and about, because barbecues are permitted at the pitches here (although there’s a food pub a couple of miles away in the village of Sproatley if you’d rather someone else did the honours with cooking). Pitches at Flinton Grange are within a peaceful five-acre field with lovely views over the Holderness countryside; simple facilities include showers, portable toilets and a washing-up area.

Local attractions

So, those beaches… the nearest is at Aldbrough (five minutes’ drive) and it’s a quiet rural beach for fishing or gentle strolls. Dog owners can head to Mappleton (10 minutes) or Fraisthorpe (35 minutes) while birdwatchers explore around Flamborough Head (50 minutes) where the cliffs are packed with puffins in summer. For seaside towns, try Hornsea (15 minutes), which has a sandy beach, restaurants and several family activities including Bugtopia Zoo, or make off to the traditional resorts of Bridlington (40 minutes) and Scarborough (an hour). Away from the seaside, you may like to visit Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (10 minutes) to tour the historic house and follow trails through the 300+ acres of grounds, or poke around in the independent shops and antiques centre in Beverley (half an hour). Hull (20 minutes) is a great destination too, for The Deep aquarium, the Streetlife Museum of Transport and walks through the Old Town.
