  • Peaceful, secluded pitches at a family-run touring park
  • A two-mile walk from Hornsea and the East Yorkshire coast
  • In rambling country with easy access to the Trans Pennine Trail
Are you after a quiet, secluded and no-frills East Yorkshire spot – with easy access to hikes and the Yorkshire coast as well as some shops and pubs? White Cottage Holiday Park should see you sorted if so, as it's in peaceful and remote countryside just outside the town of Hornsea on the East Yorkshire coast. There's easy access from here to the Trans Pennine Trail, the long-distance path running for 215 miles from coast to coast across the north of England from Southport to Hornsea; plenty more scenic countryside walks, footpaths and trails start from around these parts too if you'd rather strike out on your own. The site is run by a local family who've given it a bit of a spruce up over the past couple of years, installing an updated amenities building with eco-friendly touches like locally sourced timber, lambswool insulation and a ground source heat pump system for the hot water and heating. With the seaside town of Hornsea a mile away, a major supermarket, shops, newsagents, bank and post office are all within walking distance.

Liked: White Cottage was beautifully presented, clean, tidy, decent-sized pitches, the touring pitches are hard standing, and you need pegs for your awning that can cope with this. The shower/toilet block was cleaned daily, they were modern and tidy. The site is directly on the Trans Pennine Way with easy access, so a lovely walk down the old lines into town. Tesco is only a couple of miles a way for shopping. There's a fantastic field off to one side and the back, plenty of room for dogs and kids to run about and people were even playing rounders, the site is really spacious. The lady in the cafe hut was lovely and nothing was too much hassle (Katie I think)

Disliked: The only two (minor) faults I have on this site are that there's no soap / alcohol gel at the chemical disposal hut, so nowhere to wash your hands after dealing with your brown waste which I think is an oversight as I watched some people go to the bathroom to wash hands afterwards, touching outer door handles etc.

and the other minor issue, there's not a single 'bin' rubbish / dog poo bin on the pitches, the only bins are by the main entrance, I think two or three bins around the site would have been useful.

Liked: The whole site is extremely well maintained. We were welcomed warmly and shown our pitch. Toilets and showers were new and immaculate. Lovely cafe on site at the weekend.

Powered grass tent site

Liked: Katie was very helpful and friendly. The tent pitches are large so you don’t feel closed in. Facilities block was very clean, plenty of available showers and toilets. Site as a whole was very clean and tidy, other campers were very polite and created a great atmosphere. My son really liked hearing the hens in the morning!

Disliked: I understand why it’s not open more but having the coffee car open in the mornings other than weekends would be a huge benefit.

Liked: really good-sized gravel hard standing pitches not too closely together. Cleanest shower and toilet block i have ever seen. Grass kept really well and even after a lot of rain no puddles so really good drainage. Staff friendly and helpfull.Quiet side but only 4 mins in car from large Tesco also minutes from beach great place to use as a base and you don't have amenities of large sites, but this reflects in a very competitive price.

Disliked: slightly bigger toilet block but this is just being picky as i had only to queue twice in a week to get into the showers

Powered grass tent site (XL)

Liked: The site was immaculately clean, and the pitches were clearly marked out on a nice flat field. We had an XL pitch next to the glamping pods, which was more than big enough for our huge tent, trailer, and car.

The staff were really lovely and helpful. We had a fire pit, which was reasonably priced, the kids had a pizza from The Two Tossers pizza van and we also had a visit from the ice-cream van too!!

Really enjoyed our stay at White Cottage Holiday Park :)

Disliked: The showers were OK - they could do with some sort of bathmat to stand on when you get out, as the floor was flooded (maybe a wooden slatted mat of sorts just to keep you out of the puddle whilst you get dried?) And a hair dryer would be a nice addition too.

Also, the camp site is very open to the elements and it was really windy when we stayed and as there are not many bushes/trees we felt the full force of the gales. There are new bushes dotted around the site so perhaps this will solve itself in time when they grow!

Liked: Very warm welcome from Katie and the firepit/bbq was great. Lovely little coffee shop selling cakes and pastries. Clean toilets and showers although very busy first thing in the morning. Nice level pitches. We would definitely return.

Disliked: The weather lol! We had to leave a day early because of the insane wind!!

Powered concrete slab caravan site

Liked: This is a really well laid out and kept site.
Initially welcomed and shown to our pitch, though had been sent comprehensive pre stay info with allocated pitch number.
Hardstanding pitch was level, well kept and spacious.
We could also park our car alongside our pitch...used it on a windy/ rainy day to go to nearby coastal villages & towns.
You do need rock pegs if using an awning or windbreak etc.
Clean toilet/shower block and easily accessible waste and water facilities available...all with a "green" ethos.
Site has plenty info around it for nearby activities and also occasional ice cream & food vans.
Had a few nice coffees from onsite cafe too!
Best part was very close & easy access to Rail Trail, walks into Hornsea and the Mere...we took our bikes and boots and spent a good few days at White Cottage Holiday Park.
We will definitely return when can.

Disliked: Nothing...all good

Local attractions

Get onto one of the local footpaths or trails from White Cottage Holiday Park, or tackle as much as you dare of the Trans Pennine Trail, which finishes up in Hornsea after its epic run east from Merseyside's Southport. Its mainly traffic-free route is suitable for horse riding and bikes too (and in most cases buggies and wheelchairs) and it was voted the best National Cycle Network in the country in 2015. Also within easy reach is Hornsea Mere, the biggest freshwater lake in Yorkshire and where peeps flock to for birdwatching, rowing, sailing, boat trips and fishing. Set on the remains of a vast wetland, it's a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area for birds, with many species visiting throughout the year. A café and 18-hole putting green are on the mere's shore. White Cottage is 13 miles from Beverley, with rail access to York and Hull for shopping and days out. You could also wander around the many stately homes of the region, such as Burton Constable Hall, Burton Agnes and Rise Hall.
