  • Peaceful site on a working farm in the Yorkshire Wolds
  • A 35-minute drive from Bridlington; Castle Howard 40 minutes
  • Pet-friendly campsite with easy access to several footpaths
Fox Covert Farm is a small-scale farm site set in the gorgeous Yorkshire Wolds. This secluded spot is a couple of miles from the small village of Huggate, where there is a pub, a post office, a tea rooms and a traditional Yorkshire pub. This family-run site is an excellent option for wild escapes: you might spot hares, foxes, badgers and roe deer in the surrounding fields and woodlands. Birdlife is plentiful too, with buzzards, red kites and nesting lapwings commonly spotted at various times of year. Keen walkers will thrive in this rural area, as the Wolds Way, Minster Way and Chalkland Way trails are all within close proximity. The area is very popular with cyclists too, and handily Fox Covert Farm has provision for secure bike storage if required. Other highlights in the surrounding area include coastal resorts like Bridlington (35 minutes' drive), the magnificent grounds of Castle Howards (40 minutes) and the ancient cathedral city of York (45 minutes). Fox Covert Farm is a laidback site that welcomes dogs throughout the camping season (on leads, please). Barbecues are also welcome here (as long as they're clear of the ground).

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The area was lovely. Very tranquil and miles from any towns and on a very quiet country lane.

Disliked: Lack of drinking water being readily available. Was told to ring a number provided if we wanted some. Had no idea from the pictures just how small it was. Two small patches of mown grass at the side of a field which meant things felt cramped and on top of each other. After everyone had pitched up there wasn’t enough room left for the kids to play where they weren’t so close to everyone so they ended up playing right by our tent/kicking their football in to our tent and against our car. Not relaxing for me at all. Also, had an email stating chimneas were available but when I said I’d like one my response wasn’t answered and I never got one. Overall not great and won’t be returning. Area was the only saving grace.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Loved this site! So peaceful and beautiful! The hosts are extremely friendly and welcoming, especially important as we had 6 young children in our group who were absolutely the thrilled to meet Farmer Phil and see his machines! The hosts Simone and Phil went over and above!

Disliked: Our stay was too short!

Liked: Location was spot on for walking and visiting local areas. Back to basics site that is what camping is about for us and the friendly nature of the farmer Phil who came to check everything was ok and guide us in the right direction if we needed anything. My second time here and will be back again next year .

Liked: We spent three nights on this gem of a site. Helpful, friendly owners, (thanks for the matches). Gorgeous views, beautiful night skies and plenty of off road walking trails. We are self contained so the basic facilities were fine for us. If you like peace and quiet this is a super spot.

Liked: Lovely views, relaxed and tranquil environment

Disliked: Non potable water not being easily accessible. We felt £15 a night was high given that this site is more suited to fully self contained units.
