  • Farm site among the Yorkshire Wolds, 15 minutes’ drive from Driffield
  • A 40-minute drive from Bempton Cliffs and York city centre
  • Large coffee barn and hot woodland showers on site
Surrounded by the spectacular landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds, with far-reaching views over open countryside, Field House is a peaceful farm site a 15-minute drive from the East Yorkshire market town of Driffield. Nature is all around here, with owl boxes in the high trees and a wooded area where you’re sure to spot (or at least hear) a variety of birds. Ponies, donkeys and cattle graze the surrounding paddocks, and colourful wildflowers can be seen in season too. This is an off-grid site, so there's no mains electricity – but that doesn't mean a lack of facilities: guests have access to eco-friendly compostable toilets and hot-water showers (including a roofless one where you can look up at the tree canopy during your ablutions). Other amenities include free USB solar charging and paid EV charging. Please remember to bring a torch, since there are no lights in or around the amenities. Take a walk on the vast network of public footpaths (including a 3.5-mile route to the local fish and chip shop), or hop on your bike and set off on the coast-to-coast route (Way of the Roses), which is directly accessible from the farm gates. Depending on what’s in season, some local produce is sold on site, including fresh eggs straight from the resident happy hens. There's a large, spacious coffee barn on site which follows the same ethos of striving to be environmentally conscious whilst maintaining its agricultural heritage. The menu has many homemade products made using locally-sourced produce. For more supplies, it's about a quarter of an hour’s drive to Sledmere House and Gardens, the site’s nearest stately home, with a well-stocked farm shop. Alternatively, you can head into Driffield – and not just for provisions, but also pub trips, meals out or waterside strolls along the Driffield Navigation.

Liked: Only booked here has the one I was originally going to book was full. So glad it was. This is a lovely family run camping site. They just opened the coffee shop this weekend after the owner had finished converting an old hay barn and he had done an amazing job, it beautiful inside and the cakes are to die for. They owner/family & staff are so welcoming and friendly. We went with 3 teenager and 9 year old and our friend joined use with their 4 small children not one child complained. They is a play are with a tyre swing and can build your own den from all the natural resource (wood) the toilet and shower area are well maintained ( kids were mortified at first that it was just a hole with a toilet seat ) but it was part of the experience. They also rent out a tee pee what you book via their website. Definitely be booking again. Highly recommend.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: We camped as a two family group with 4 7year old children over the bank holiday weekend. We rented a fire pit one night which was well worth it. The sky was clear and gave a great view of all the stars. Great open camping field with space for games without annoying other campers. Kids woodland play area is great. The new coffee shop was lovely and I’m sure it will be even better once the coffee machine arrives.

Disliked: Composting toilets take some get used to but the facilities were clean

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Children liked the experience! It was our first time camping -mum & 2 children). It rained and was cold and mum didn’t prepare well so we had to leave early, plus they didn’t have a good night, but they want to return! Site was lovely. Eco toilets teach children about water and resources, though not easy to adjust as first timers. Children loved the zip line area and my daughter fell in love with the grey mare Ivy with whom she played all eve and morning. She was so sad to leave! But as first timers, having demarcated pitches would have helped immensely.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The site is a lovely site, with lots to do in surrounding areas, we took a trip to flamingoland, bridlington and the swimming baths, went to the local circus that was visiting which was brilliant, also went to the nature reserve, the campsite itself is lovely , showers are a brilliant experience the toilets are well compost toilets my first time experiencing this wasnt for the faint hearted, was ok when we had the campsite to ourself but when it was full well the toilets got full, the farmer who owns the site is polite and friendly and nothing too much trouble even took our tractor mad 2 year old for a ride round the feild which he hasnt stopped talking about, definitely return also has a little park for the children and den building which the older kids spent lots of time in there

Disliked: The wasps everywhere was an issue i dint mean a few i mean at one point there was about 100 around us, this isnt the campsites fault but think there may of been a nest near our tent and with 3 young children i couldnt relax or the kids couldnt eat outside for getting set up on none of us got stung which was a miracle

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review, we're glad you enjoyed the site. With regards to the wasps, we have since put out lots of wasp traps to try to combat the pesky things which seems to be helping.

Local attractions

Designed by Queen Elizabeth I’s master mason, Burton Agnes Hall (25 minutes’ drive) is a great example of late 16th-century Tudor architecture. Its rooms house collections of decorative arts and paintings, while outdoor spaces include a walled garden with a yew maze and dense woodland with an adventure course for kids. Take a stroll around York city centre (40 minutes), taking in the Shambles and other cobbled streets lined with half-timbered buildings, before heading to the medieval York Minster, with its splendid stained-glass windows and rooftop walk. The Jorvik Viking Centre explores the city’s Viking heritage. For a day at the beach, Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast (40 minutes) has open beaches and sheltered coves, plus miles of chalk cliffs inhabited by guillemots and puffins (RSPB Bempton Cliffs). A lovely walk takes you up to the 17th-century Old Flamborough Lighthouse and on to the Flamborough Sea Arch, jutting out into the sea.
