  • Farm site among the Yorkshire Wolds, 15 minutes’ drive from Driffield
  • A 40-minute drive from Bempton Cliffs and York city centre
  • Large coffee barn and hot woodland showers on site
Surrounded by the spectacular landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds, with far-reaching views over open countryside, Field House is a peaceful farm site a 15-minute drive from the East Yorkshire market town of Driffield. Nature is all around here, with owl boxes in the high trees and a wooded area where you’re sure to spot (or at least hear) a variety of birds. Ponies, donkeys and cattle graze the surrounding paddocks, and colourful wildflowers can be seen in season too. This is an off-grid site, so there's no mains electricity – but that doesn't mean a lack of facilities: guests have access to eco-friendly compostable toilets and hot-water showers (including a roofless one where you can look up at the tree canopy during your ablutions). Other amenities include free USB solar charging and paid EV charging. Please remember to bring a torch, since there are no lights in or around the amenities. Take a walk on the vast network of public footpaths (including a 3.5-mile route to the local fish and chip shop), or hop on your bike and set off on the coast-to-coast route (Way of the Roses), which is directly accessible from the farm gates. Depending on what’s in season, some local produce is sold on site, including fresh eggs straight from the resident happy hens. There's a spacious, dog-friendly coffee barn on site with views over the Yorkshire Wolds, which serves a good selection of homemade food and has a licensed bar. Open every day (during the evenings on Friday and Saturday), it also has table tennis and sells locally made gifts. For more supplies, it's about a quarter of an hour’s drive to Sledmere House and Gardens, the site’s nearest stately home, with a well-stocked farm shop. Alternatively, you can head into Driffield – and not just for provisions, but also pub trips, meals out or waterside strolls along the Driffield Navigation.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Lovely peaceful site, large field with open pitching. The stars at night were spectacular thanks to it being a dark site. The toilets are easy to use and pleasant enough and the showers under the trees are phenomenal. The kids play area is excellent and our children adored the animals onsite, especially checking the nest boxes every morning for an egg. We managed to collect 6 eggs to eat during our stay. The coffee barn has excellent food, coffee and cakes. Owners and cafe staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Overall it was a lovely stay and we will come back!

Disliked: The weather was a bit rubbish but can't be helped! Someone ignored the sign and let their dog into the kids play area which meant I had to clean up dog poo on our first day there so my kids could play but this wasn't the campsite owners fault at all was just some rude person ignoring the sign and being inconsiderate.

Liked: We loved this campsite. It has a little play area for the kids with a zipline and a tyre swing. Animals for the kids to see. It has a bar which serves food all day and on an evening. Friendly staff. Fire pits available for the chilly evenings. Toilets were unusual for the kids but they soon got used to them! We loved the shower under the trees! All clean and tidy.

Disliked: Nothing. We really enjoyed our stay.

Liked: Amazing clean campsite! kids loved the den building area and seeing the donkey! Quiet after 10pm most nights which made it easier to get kids to sleep! Friendly owners always on hand to offer any help needed. Coffee shop was great for a nice hot drink and cake and for kids to play ping pong. Overall fantastic campsite will be back.

Disliked: Shower was cold

Liked: Great, relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of space for the kids to play. We went as a family of 5 (kids aged 5, 10, and 11) and all kids of all ages had fun playing together. Making s’mores under the stars and trekking through the farm land (using the designated paths) were our favourite parts.

Disliked: Fire pit hire is a bit pricey but worth it. Putting up a tent in 50+ mph winds is not for the faint hearted, but couldn’t be helped.

Liked: Everything. Very peaceful campsite, lovely staff and the woodland play area was amazing. If you intend to come to this site, please teach your children to use the eco toilets correctly as several times they'd been misused. This campsite is top tier and deserves respect!

Disliked: Nothing. Site was top tier! We'll be back.

Liked: What a hidden gem. Secluded and quiet location but a good base to get to the seaside. Very good and clean facilities. Friendly farm animals on the site and we even got a fresh chicken egg 😋

Disliked: The coffee shop is only open for a few hours. Not an issue but could be nice to sit with a cold beer 😊

Local attractions

Designed by Queen Elizabeth I’s master mason, Burton Agnes Hall (25 minutes’ drive) is a great example of late 16th-century Tudor architecture. Its rooms house collections of decorative arts and paintings, while outdoor spaces include a walled garden with a yew maze and dense woodland with an adventure course for kids. Take a stroll around York city centre (40 minutes), taking in the Shambles and other cobbled streets lined with half-timbered buildings, before heading to the medieval York Minster, with its splendid stained-glass windows and rooftop walk. The Jorvik Viking Centre explores the city’s Viking heritage. For a day at the beach, Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast (40 minutes) has open beaches and sheltered coves, plus miles of chalk cliffs inhabited by guillemots and puffins (RSPB Bempton Cliffs). A lovely walk takes you up to the 17th-century Old Flamborough Lighthouse and on to the Flamborough Sea Arch, jutting out into the sea.
