  • Peaceful back-to-basics camping in the Suffolk countryside
  • Framlingham 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to the coast at Southwold
  • Rope swings and space to play or light campfires; pub 10 minutes' walk
Peaceful open meadows. Campfire evenings. Space for kids to play on rope swings in the trees. Village pub a short walk away through the woods. If you’re looking for a traditional camping experience under the big Suffolk skies, you’ll likely be very pleased with the setup at Little Klabang Camping Farm. This family-friendly site is all about back-to-basics camping – the 12 acres of former apple orchard have simple facilities (just toilets and showers) and plenty of space for kids to run about, play on the rope swings and discover nature. You're very much encouraged to step away from technology here, light a campfire (wood is available to buy on site, or you can bring your own) and have a friendly chat. To help that peaceful atmosphere thrive, amplified music is banned on site, although the site occasionally hosts music events. So, this is a very serene setting – but it's a convenient one too, on the edge of the village of Laxfield. That means a well-stocked shop and a couple of village pubs within 10 minutes’ walk, plus bus stops for journeys to Framlingham and Ipswich. There are plenty of quiet lanes and paths around for days of walking and cycling, village pubs to try out, and a good number of things for the kids to do nearby. Suffolk seaside towns like Southwold and Aldeburgh are about half an hour's drive away.

Main Meadow unpowered grass and earth tent or motorhome site

Liked: The location was pretty, well signposted. The toilets and showers were clean with plenty of hot water and loo roll. Nice to be allowed fires and bbq with no fuss, as lots of sites are so restrictive. Great acces to pub and shop a short walk away.

Disliked: We arrived a day late due to heavy rain, we decided to give the 1st night a miss. When we arrived the site was really packed and despite calling the day before to confirm we were still arriving just a day late, when we arrived the only two remaining pitches were one in a field (which we had not booked) was sloping and full of bumps crammed between trees or a pitch covered in mouldy grass from a previous wigwam which had been removed. We had booked the main meadow closer to the loos as I am disabled and have walking difficulties and had no choice but to take the messy remaining pitch. We asked him to clear the grass, he initially refused then reluctantly said he "may" be able to get someone to do it later. My partner ended up spending 20 minutes scraping it off himself. We were annoyed and frustrated as we had specifically booked the main meadow but despite paying in advance and calling, the owner had o interest in ensuring there was a space for us and offered no apology despite riding past several times while we were there. To add insult to injury a camper van turned up and accused us of stealing their space while they were away for the day. When I booked this I read several comments about the owners customer service now I understand why. You have been warned! Great site but don't expect any kind of customer service at all. And you may not get the field you booked.

Main Meadow unpowered grass and earth tent or motorhome site

Liked: The different range of pitches and smaller fields, different range of pitches and space. Great to be able to have campfires and BBQ. Safe and creative area for children. Fab location with a shop and pubs within a short walk as well as a 30minute drive to seaside town and beaches.

Disliked: Cleaning of showers was poor. When we arrived biffa bins were full and had not been emptied, by the end of the weekend rubbish was piling up on top of these creating a health hazard. No water points other than at the toilet block which was quite a walk from some of the pitches.

Small Meadow unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Great chilled out campsite with clean and tidy facilities and large private pitches. The little paths through the trees and shrubs to get to the toilets etc were really nice, and the slightly random festival tent and stage with piano were such a hit with the kids. We will definitely come again!

Small Meadow unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Loved staying here. Beautiful setting, excellent showers and facilities, relaxed atmosphere. Camped in the small orchard in a sweet pitch with fire and on comfy mossy grass. Liked the rope swings in the bar and the footpath to the Low House where the food & cider was ace. Recommended!

Orchard unpowered grass and earth tent site (secluded)

Liked: Looked welcoming.

Disliked: If you don't like the sound of someone who can't play the piano, play the piano, loudly. Or the scream of chainsaws. Or you seek some privacy, this is not the site for you. Booked an orchard pitch hoping for peace, quiet, and solitude. Packed up and left after an hour and a half.

From the manager: Im really very sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. The piano is left out for the enjoyment of the many kids on the site. Any more incidents like this and ill be reviewing the addition of an outside piano. We have also had some quite beautiful performances. Just not on the night you stayed. Ill be refunding you fee. And sorry for the inconvenience.

Lovely natural site with a five min walk to village with 2 fab pubs.

Main Meadow unpowered grass and earth tent or motorhome site

Liked: We love the natural feel of Klabang and the fact that there are various natural wooded areas to choose from. The owner is very helpful and brings wood round of an evening for the fire pits. The position is excellent with a 5 minute walk to the village where two fabulous pubs are located.

Disliked: An upgrade of the showers would be appreciated. And a bit more work on keeping back brambles.

Main Meadow unpowered grass and earth tent or motorhome site

Liked: Relaxed atmosphere, loads of space, walk to village, shop and pub straight from the site.

Disliked: Toilets and showers not always very clean. Poor lighting in some of the toilet cubicles. More hooks and shelves in toilet and shower areas would be good.

Local attractions

Suffolk is great walking and cycling territory, as the land is fairly flat and there are lots of scenic paths around (plus several lovely country pubs along the way for refreshments). You may also like to take a stroll around Framlingham (15 minutes' drive) to see the castle and Saturday market, or head to Woodbridge (half an hour) for pretty streets, an independent cinema and boat trips on the river Deben. The Suffolk coast is equally excellent, whether you head to the famous pier, colourful beach huts and Adnams brewery in Southwold, explore arty Aldeburgh or take a peaceful wander through National Trust-owned land at Dunwich Heath and Beach. All are about half an hour's drive. For family days out, you can meet exotic beasts at Camel Park Oasis (15 minutes), coo at the cute animals of Easton Farm Park (20 minutes) or play at being knights at Orford Castle (half an hour). Sutton Hoo (35 minutes) also makes a good day out, as does a trip to Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park (an hour).
