Pitches in Martins Meadow

General

  • Simple and peaceful semi-wild site 10 minutes' drive from Woodbridge
  • A 15-minute drive to Sutton Hoo; half an hour to Aldeburgh
  • Pitches of a third of an acre; easy access to walks and bike rides

Martins Meadows is a peaceful spot in the Suffolk countryside, a couple of miles from Clopton and a 10-minute drive from Woodbridge.

This is the sort of site to head to if you’re after a simple, quiet time surrounded by lots of open space. It stretches out over four acres but with only a handful of guests on site you can look forward to about a third of an acre for each pitch (you’ll probably see more sheep than tents). Usually some of each pitch is left unmown so you’ll have some long grass around for a bit of seclusion and privacy.

It’s a semi-wild setup here, with no electricity or hot water and just simple facilities including portaloos, a cold water supply and a washing-up area. Chickens and sheep enjoy a quiet life on the farm, so although well-behaved dogs are welcome on site you’ll need to make sure they’re kept under control at all times and not left unattended.

Barbecues are permitted on site, and you can pick up supplies for such things at either a farm shop or a supermarket, both of which are within a 10-minute drive.

Getting out for a walk or bike ride is straightforward from this site as there are plenty of footpaths and quiet lanes nearby. Days out nearby might include history-based wanders at Sutton Hoo, Helmingham Hall and Framlingham Castle or coastal days in Orford and Aldeburgh (both half an hour away).

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Minimum spacing of 15 metres between pitches.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Proper camping with level pitches. Quiet location with easy access to towns and coast if you want it. Friendly and communicative owners. We camped during storm Francis and were offered hot water for a cuppa in the morning.

This is a simple site, just a field of long grass with pitch pods of cut grass. Off the beaten track and delightfully uncomplicated. The hosts are helpful and welcoming. Fresh eggs from their chickens add to the rustic air. Easy cycling to beautiful coast and estuary spots.

What a fabulous back to basic campsite, from the moment we arrived to leaving we felt instantly relaxed. The pitch was huge with loads of space between happy campers. Clean field, no rubbish anywhere as Lucinda provides an excellent recycling system. No hot water, (plenty of cold) no hot shower (cold hosepipe in privacy tent) portable toilets (clean and smelled lovely most of the time) with handwashing point outside, soap, water and hand sanatiser, what more do you need? More eggs! You can buy freshly laid eggs but be quick as you mighten be as lucky as us, we had some every morning and they are up there with being some of the best eggs we've eaten. Thank you for providing this little haven.

Absolutely beautifully done campsite. Quiet in a rural setting within striking distance on most towns, sea front etc.

It’s basic but that was the attraction. Probably the best campsite I’ve stayed on in 40 years because of it simplicity. I’ve stayed on a few and we did 9 nights on this one. Took solar showers and solar chargers and got on with it!

The owners were great and looked after everything.
    Really enjoyed the experience!
