Pitches

  • Grass pitches at an adults-only Suffolk holiday park near Saxmundham
  • A 20-minute drive to Aldeburgh beach; 25 minutes to Orford Castle
  • Entertainment, fishing, a pool and fitness suite on site
Occupying a quiet corner of a Suffolk holiday park 10 minutes' drive from Saxmundham, the spacious grass pitches at the adults-only Lonely Farm provide peace by the bucketload as well as all the advantages of the park’s facilities. And what facilities they are: with not one but two fishing lakes on site, this is a splendid spot for keen anglers, and there’s plenty more to lure you in too. On high-season weekends (March to October), you’ll be kept entertained by free activities and events, and when the weather is behaving, you can get out on the tennis court. Keep up your exercise regime (if you must) in the fitness suite, or swim a few laps of the heated indoor pool. If you prefer more sedate pursuits, you can simply have a wander along the park’s woodland walk. Guests staying on the pitches at Lonely Farm also have access to electric hook-ups, shower and toilet blocks, waste disposal points and fresh water points.

What customers say

Great for a quiet getaway. Staff are friendly, pitches are roomy. Some facilities are a bit old-fashioned, but generally clean. Ideal location and use of next-door park's facilities is a bonus. A few mention organisation issues and staff not always being around.

Liked Lcation. Large holiday park had good swimming facilities, fishing lakes were nice. Club house clean and staff were friendly. Touring field was nicely kept and well mowed.

Disliked No staff at field for check in, no cash accepted, toilets and showers need updating. Mop supplied for shower floor….but not in a bucket of disinfectant, just placed on the floor. Was not advised that a swimming pass was needed, but rectified easily at holiday park reception.

Liked We were 2 older couples with caravans and this site is very quiet and peaceful. Facilities are old but clean.

Disliked There is no physical reception on site. A notice tells you to ring on arrival and they give your allocated pitch numbers. However, the pitches given to us were already occupied, as were all the others suggested. It transpired most of the pitches are occupied as seasonal pitches but they have no idea which ones. We had specifically requested 2 adjacent pitches when booking but there weren’t any. Eventually, 5 phone calls later while they were “sorting it out” we found a young a girl by one of the outbuildings and pointed out the only space for us was in the tent field. She kindly agreed to letting us pitch in there as it was empty and would let them know - all this took place in the pouring rain so we were not happy at all. However, we loved the peace and quiet there and it turned out just right for us.

Liked So quiet and peaceful.
Dog walking path right there.
Facilities were clean enough and nice and close.

Disliked Advised to call for the warden for any help, which we tried to do on arrival-went straight to voicemail and no one returned our call for the entire stay.
So that wasn’t that helpful.
Never saw any staff.

Liked Quiet

Disliked No reception on site
Given an already occupied pitch via a note on the notice board ( we were not the only ones) had to go to reception at Carlton meres site next door where they didn’t really care, so picked my own pitch, was then approached by a staff member that said she had written the list and I was in the wrong place ! I pointed out that ‘my’ pitch had a residential caravan on it…..
Toilet block needs up grading
Lack of proper organisation.

Liked The area has many walks around and is close to aldeburgh for day trips. Shower blocks are hot and clean. Toilets were ok but they didn’t get checked over the time we stayed so they got very dirty.

Disliked Very unorganised when booking through pitch up, the reception at the holiday park where you have to go don’t know any of the details. We had to go in the side with the campervan which made it very difficult to pitch the tent due to hard stones.

Local attractions

For days at the beach, take to the coast at Aldeburgh (20 minutes’ drive) and treat yourself to fish and chips, or head to cute little Southwold (25 minutes) for retro amusements at the Under the Pier Show on the pier. From there, hop on the ferry across the River Blyth to Walberswick (25 minutes) for a drink in the pub or to spot wading birds among its heathlands and marshes. Other day trips that should bring a smile to your faces include all the animal encounters at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park (40 minutes), Banham Zoological Gardens (an hour) for its penguins and sea lions, or the truck safaris across the savannah at Africa Alive Zoological Reserve (half an hour). Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park (45 minutes) is another good bet, with water rides and rollercoasters galore. Mix things up a bit by introducing some history into your lives: at Framlingham Castle (15 minutes) you can walk the defence walls, and at Orford Castle (25 minutes) there are displays of local Roman finds and audio tours of the castle’s tangle of passageways.
