Shepherd's hut

Liked: A wonderful, level, clean and tidy campsite with lots of space for playing away from the pitches. My son was delighted to see a badminton net, table tennis and football goals. The Shepherds hut was brilliant and a really good size for the four of us and was really cosy with great facilities. Lovely having a picnic table outside too.

Disliked: No campfires. However bbq’s are allowed and this was lovely.

Shepherd's hut

Liked: We had a lovely stay. The campsite is in a great location for visiting the Suffolk coast. It is spacious and has good facilities, which are well maintained including a shop which was very well stocked. There are football goals, table tennis and a netball hoop and a climbing frame and swings. There is also a nice trail walk. We enjoyed a takeaway from Wenhaston but there is also a pub next door to the site.

Disliked: The futons were not overly comfortable to sit or sleep on in the shepherds hut.

Fully-serviced grass site

Liked: Lots of space in the playing field for children. Clean toilet & shower block. Well-kept pitches.

Disliked: It seemed that no one on the campsite was given pitches next to groups they had booked with which was strange. Even when we had requested multiple times before arrival. So everyone was separated which made it tricky to be with friends when small children were asleep. That was a shame and would put me off going there again. The manager was not very helpful.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Special requests cannot be guaranteed however Pitchup have now made it possible for me to move bookings, but this is only possible if the pitch required is available. I guess I would have not come across as helpful because i could not move them to there desired pitch, we were fully booked all through August.

Glamping Pod

Liked: Cleanliness of the pods and site. How spaced out areas were but yet not too far. The friendliness of the staff. A place to let the kids run crazy safely and lovely play frame. Close to other places to visit. Well stocked mini shop.

Fully-serviced grass site

Liked: Really lovely campsite, very peaceful and quiet. They only have a small number of pitches so it was not busy at all. Small shop on site selling all the essentials. The toilets/showers were very warm and well maintained throughout our stay. Every member of staff we spoke to was friendly and welcoming!

Local attractions

After all the walking, cycling, horse riding and golfing, get stuck into the area's history at the 12th-century fortress of Framlingham Castle, half an hour's drive away. Once the refuge of Mary Tudor, this fab place now has exhibitions, themed trails and an audio tour covering its centuries of history: enough to keep young Horrible Histories fans entertained too. Arty sorts will know that Suffolk is Constable country: if this is you, come armed with camera or paintbox to snap and sketch the countryside, harbour and coastal views around the area. You could also take a trip to art complex the Snape Maltings on the Alde river, for events, activities and evening entertainment in the concert hall. Seaside? But of course. Have a stroll around Southwold and its colourful beach huts, or drive half an hour north to Lowestoft for seaside amusements and Pleasurewood Hills, a nifty tucked away theme park with rollercoasters and attractions for all. Walberswick beach, around a 15-minute drive from Heathside, is a popular spot for crabbing. If you’re staying at Heathside for a while, set off early and spend the whole day on the Norfolk Broads (about an hour and 15 minutes' drive north, or drive south for around an hour and a half to the villages of Long Melford and Lavenham with their medieval timber-framed houses.
