  • Peaceful 8.5-acre site with lakes, woodland and adventurous activities
  • On the outskirts of Norwich; 20 minutes' drive from Wroxham
  • Canoeing, archery, axe throwing, high ropes and a zipline
Outdoor adventure in a rural setting is the name of the game at X Adventure Activities, a spacious woodland site about 20 minutes' drive from Norwich city centre. As you may have gathered, there's a whole bunch of adventurous action on the cards at this outdoorsy spot, but it also makes a top base for laidback breaks surrounded by nature or for jaunts out to the stunning Norfolk Broads (20 minutes' drive). This 8.5-acre site has simple amenities that are kept clean and tidy by the friendly site staff – toilets, hot showers, laundry facilities and a shared fridge and freezer are all available. There's also secure bike storage – particularly handy for those planning on making this their base for cycles along the car-free Marriott's Way (about 15 minutes' cycle). Activities here vary by day and are subject to availability, but you may be able to try out canoeing on the river Bure, archery, axe throwing, a high ropes course and a zipline that zooms right over one of the on-site lakes. It's worth noting that activities are only designed for ages eight and above (the very youngest in your travel tribe might instead appreciate a trip to the local soft play centre, 20 minutes' walk away). At dinner, a covered barbecue area with plentiful outdoor seating is on offer; you can also opt for wild-style barbecues on the field, but please make sure that these are raised off the grass. Wood is available to buy on site for campfires, but you're also free to bring your own. The nearby village of Horsford (20 minutes' walk) has a small but well-stocked supermarket and a fish and chip shop, takeaway and ice cream parlour.

Cabin

Liked: The area were lovely, kids had a loads of free space to play football. Nice wooden cabin and really good price.

Disliked: My husband asked me to add 1 point. You should remove from your advertising fishing experience. He have brought everything for fishing and went disappointed, as there is only a small swamp with very little, standing water. Kind of river too but also like 10cm water, there is no fishes.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked: The staff were all so accommodating and friendly. They were amazing with the kids and went out of their way to help us all.

Disliked: The shower was cold both times I tried it, but once the staff were aware this was quickly fixed so this is not a complaint. Goes to show how helpful they were.

Cabin

Liked: We liked the open space for the kids to play and run free, cabin was a good size with plenty of space There were a couple of charging sockets between the whole camp and a small kitchen to use although we didn’t get to use as bigger groups were always using the facilities. Women’s showers good temp. Nice area close amenities

Disliked: Facilities were not clean although did witness these being cleaned each morning, the grime and dirt build up in the toilets and showers showed that they need a few bottles of bleach and a good scrub, women’s toilets- only one out of 4 were in use and 2 showers out of 5 which only had a mouldy curtain to pull across with hair all collected in the grates men’s showers were cold.

2 bedroom rental tent

Liked: How friendly and helpful the staff members were, they went above and beyond to ensure our time was valuable during our stay, helping us willingly for duties we could’ve done ourself but they insisted. They left a good impression leaving me and my friends a great weekend and definitely the likability of coming again.

Disliked: Not really a dislike but more a I personally would prefer if there was more activities, maybe some where they travel out of camp to do.

Malham 1 bedroom bunkhouse (six person)

Liked: All staff were lovely and very helpful, I have asked to swap the cabin as we have arrived and since it was free, they let us swap without any issues. We have stayed in the wooden one, which was really cosy, beds were in great condition and we were provided with a torch. Showers, toilets and mini kitchen on site as well as a little cafe so really helpful as we only stayed one night and didn't need to pack all camping essentials :) great location and overall would definitely recommend this place

Disliked: There were a lot of bugs in the cabin. I know it can be expected while going camping, but I am sure they could have provided something to gey rid of them. I am not talking about mosquitoes, but flies, beetles and other kids which were a massive put of. As I said the beds were really comfy, but would be great if at least one of the cabins had one twin bed for adults instead of having 4 bunks, as my partner who is 6ft tall struggles on the bottom bunk. One of the showers was out of order which wasn't a problem as there were 3 others but there were couple of slugs in the out of order shower, same in the kitchen area, I tried to go to wash up just after 10pm and the slugs were all over the sink, and the washing sponge. There was someone on site all night, I am sure someone could have kept an eye on these things, but again overall it was a great place to stay and I would choose to stay there again if we were going to this area

Cabin

Liked: Very friendly staff. Nice field and surroundings. Good location. Fire pitch. Potential of being a really lovely place to stay.

Disliked: Facilities are horrific. - In a desperate need of cleaning, repair, upgrade. No activities on the weekend in July due to staffing issues.

Cabin

Liked: Amazing holiday with family, friends and kids. It was 13 of us and we had fantastic 4 days full of sun, laughter and fresh air. There is wide range of activities available to book for extra cost and it’s all on site. We did zip wire, archery, axe throwing and raft building. Everyone who works there are nothing but helpful, welcoming and hard working. Nothing was too much or too hard for them and they made us feel so welcome. We can’t wait to be back. Thank you from us all 🤩☺️

Disliked: It was perfect

Local attractions

Kids of all ages are sure to get excited by the prospect of a trip to the Norwich Puppet Theatre, and while you're in town there's also the town's cathedral and medieval castle to explore. Having the city's Roarr Dinosaur Adventure up your sleeve may also come in handy if you're travelling with any budding palaeontologists… For time by the water in and around the Norfolk Broads, you could take your rod and tackle down to Wensum Fisheries (15 minutes' drive) for a bit of quiet time or head to Wroxham (20 minutes) to hire a boat for self-piloted trips around the local area's waterways. If you'd rather away to the seaside instead, you can get down to the stretches of sand at Bacton (35 minutes) for days out on the beach, while over in Suffolk you can visit the UK's most easterly point at Lowestoft (50 minutes).
