  • Off-grid glamping in a quiet Norfolk field backed by woodlands
  • A 25-minute drive to Blakeney; half an hour to Holkham beach
  • Bed linen, cooker, solar lighting and communal barbecues provided
Nipping off for a Norfolk outdoor break has been made really rather easy at Ashcroft Glamping – this quiet rural spot is a place where the tents are ready to move into and pretty much all the equipment you’ll need is already in place. You’ll need to pack your own towels for a stay here, but otherwise much of your kit is sorted for you: tents are fully furnished with bed linen provided, and each one also has a gas cooker, seating and lighting. Tea and coffee provisions are in place too, so you can have a refreshing drink as soon as you arrive (or whenever you fancy it). The setup here is an eco-friendly off-grid one: you’ll have access to solar lighting and gas-heated showers, plus flushing toilets, but please note there’s no wifi (not that you’re likely to miss your gadgets too much in such lovely rural surroundings…) There are a couple of communal barbecues around for your evening meal, or you can cuddle up by the firepit for cosy evenings. Pick up food supplies and other bits in Reepham, Fakenham or Dereham (all within 20 minutes’ drive). And how to work up an appetite for that barbecue evening? Well, perhaps a walk on one of the local footpaths, which lead from the site across fields to the neighbouring villages of Hindolveston and Foulsham. Or how about a day up at the seaside? It should take less than half an hour to drive up to the north Norfolk coast for beach days or seal-spotting trips.

Local attractions

The north Norfolk coast is the place to be for lots of visitors to this area, and there’s lots of variety to keep you coming back. Head for the colourful beach huts of Wells-next-the-Sea (half an hour’s drive), explore the parkland of Holkham Hall (half an hour) before moving onto the sweeping sandy beach, or go crabbing in Cromer (35 minutes). Norfolk is one of the best places in the UK to see seals too – the huge colony of common and grey seals can be seen on boat trips from Blakeney (25 minutes). For views of a different kind, take a scenic ride on the North Norfolk Railway from Holt (20 minutes). If your holiday isn’t complete without a stroll around a stately home, take a trip to Houghton House and Gardens (35 minutes), constructed for Britain’s first prime minister and now home to some excellent outdoor art, or go even higher up the social rankings at royal residence Sandringham Estate (40 minutes).

Copper Beech bell tent

Liked: Very peaceful and tranquil settings. Lovely bell tent which easily accommodated my wife and two children. Everything is provided. Very good eco showers and toilets. And good location to travel up towards the coast in under half an hour. Louisa and Alex were very accommodating and provide anything we needed (wood) if we were running low!
