  • Within 20 minutes' walk of Morston Quay for seal-spotting boat trips
If Norfolk’s windswept dunes, salt marshes and grey seals are whispering your name, answer the call with a stay at Agar Farm. Set directly opposite the Blakeney National Nature Reserve, this 14-acre wild site not only has views of the sea and marshes (where, up close, wildlife like egrets, spoonbills and brent geese can be spied), but it also has direct access to the Norfolk Coast Path… Follow the coastal path west and in less than 20 minutes, you’ll turn up at Morston Quay, where boat trips depart in search of England’s biggest grey seal colony every day during the high season. There’s no chance of you going hungry around here either, as the village has a pub with a lovely beer garden selling bits like fish and chips, local beers and seafood, and the quay has a café with hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and snacky bits. If you choose the follow the Norfolk Coast Path east instead, it’s about a 10-minute walk to Blakeney village and quay, where, with just a few more minutes of strolling, guests can get to a small shop, café, bakery and pub. You don’t even have to go on foot, as kayak owners can launch their noble watercraft directly onto Agar Creek from Agar Farm’s private pontoon. After steering your way to Blakeney Quay, there are some excellent open-water swimming spots. Back on site, the off-grid motorhome pitches are set between two peaceful meadows with access to cold-water taps at the barn, and there is a hardstanding area for parking and access. You’re well-based here for beach explorations and birdwatching, as well as getting out to fine Norfolk destinations like Cromer, Holkham and Sheringham, which are all between a 20- and 25-minute drive away from the site.

Local attractions

There may be marshes directly accessible from Agar Farm, but a short drive will get you to more: Salthouse Marshes (10 minutes’ drive) is a popular birdwatching spot with boardwalks and hides. This is also a handy launchpad for springing over to Norfolk seaside towns, which have been used as holiday destinations since Victorian times. Cromer (25 minutes’ drive) has sandy beaches and a Victorian pier with a famed end-of-pier theatre, the Pavilion Theatre. Go and see the beach huts in Sheringham (20 minutes), and when you’re tired and complaining of walking, rest your feet on the heritage steam railway to Holt to go and check out the rail models at the William Marriott Museum. Holkham (20 minutes) is another fine local spot, with a windswept beach, salt marshes and dunes all alongside a historic stately home with a deer park and a six-acre walled garden. You may very well feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
