  • Friendly family-run site behind a Worcestershire village pub
  • Five minutes' drive to Upton upon Severn; Malvern Hills 10 minutes
  • Pub meals and beer garden on site; dogs and kids welcome
Keen to do a bit of walking in the Malvern Hills – or perhaps take in an event at the Three Counties Showground? Reckon you’ll need a good meal and a refreshing pint at the end of it all – and no need to drive to your accommodation? Sounds like you should consider a break at The Green at Newbridge Green. This family-run Worcestershire site is very handily located in the grounds of a friendly 17th-century village pub, which means that when you return from whatever activities you’ve filled your days with you’ll be able to chill out with a nice pint of something (local ale, perhaps) in the beer garden or head into the cosy interior for a filling meal by the fire. The campsite is just as friendly as the pub, with families, biker groups and dog owners all welcome to stay at the simple but spacious pitches. You’ll have access to a chemical disposal point and a shower/toilet block, and there’s usually wifi available in the pub if you need it. You’ll be able to see over to the Malvern Hills National Landscape from here – and that should give you a clue that there are some lovely walks to be done nearby. The edge of the protected area is about 10 minutes’ drive away, as is the Three Counties Showground. Eastnor Castle, Ledbury and Tewkesbury are all within easy reach too, and your nearest town is Upton upon Severn (five minutes’ drive), with several shops and pubs plus a lively programme of music festivals throughout the year.

Liked Mark greeted us and had a warm welcome. Easy to go on the pitch but rained hard. Did get stuck but got out ok with the locals help. Food in the pub was excellent and the shower facilities were as to be expected hot water etc. It’s camping so don’t expect it to be too warm during the winter months. Would stay again.

Liked Nothing

Disliked We were really disappointed with our stay at this site and unfortunately left after just one night. The grounds were very poorly maintained — the grass was long and ground uneven, and after a bit of rain it quickly became a muddy mess. We’ve stayed at plenty of other sites in wet conditions, but none have been this untidy or uncomfortable underfoot. No matter where you walked, your feet were wet and muddy, and the ground was so bumpy it made pitching up awkward.

The toilet and shower block was equally disappointing. It was cold, basic, and not clean. There were several long black hairs in the sink and large clumps (almost balls) of hair left in the shower. One of the showers didn’t work at all, and the other had visible mould around the edges. It really didn’t feel hygienic, and certainly not worth the price being charged.

We understand the on-site pub is now run separately from the campsite, but for anyone thinking of visiting — don’t expect much from that either. It’s also worth noting that there’s no nearby public transport, so once you’re there you’re very much stuck unless you have your own vehicle.

For a site charging over £30 per night, we expected a much higher standard of cleanliness, upkeep, and general care. Sadly, this site fell far short. We’ve stayed at many other campsites for a similar price that have been far better looked after. We won’t be returning and couldn’t recommend it in its current state.

Local attractions

Get those walking boots nicely broken in, because there are lots of great trails to explore around here – you may like to try circular or riverside strolls from Upton upon Severn (five minutes’ drive) or take on some more challenging routes through the Malvern Hills National Landscape – places like British Camp Hill Fort and Gullet Quarry (both 10 minutes) are close by, and it’s not far to Worcestershire Beacon (20 minutes), the highest point in the area. Seeing the scenery doesn’t have to involve a long hike though – you could just as easily explore the grand grounds of Eastnor Castle (20 minutes), meander around Great Malvern (15 minutes) or lose the kids for a while at The Great Worcester Maize Maze (15 minutes). Several of the area’s towns make pretty places for a wander as well – particularly Tewkesbury (15 minutes), with its abbey and river views, and Ledbury (20 minutes), full of indie cafés and well-preserved medieval buildings. The city of Worcester (25 minutes) is also worth a visit, for its cathedral and museums.
