  • Touring pitches at a Staffordshire working farm with easy M6 access
  • A 10-minute drive to Stafford; 20 minutes to Cannock Chase
  • On-site café/ice cream parlour selling homemade Jersey-milk ice cream
There are many things to like about Red Lion Farm Touring Caravan Park, but it’s quite possible you’ll be sold simply with the phrase ‘homemade ice cream from the farm’s Jersey cows’… Yes indeed, this Staffordshire touring site is part of a working farm where the herd provides the milk that goes into the treats on sale in the on-site café/ice cream parlour, with at least 20 flavours to choose from (maybe you’ll need to stop by a few times?) There’s coffee and cake for sale in the café too if you need something to go alongside your ice cream (and local cheese, eggs, jams and pies to buy for later as well). Of course, you can’t live on ice cream and cake alone (although some would gladly try…) so it’s good to note that there’s much more to this place than just sweet treats. As it’s part of a working farm, you’ll also be able to spot animals around the place, including various rescued birds of prey at the owl sanctuary. The essentials are all sorted too, with access to a launderette and a toilet/shower block. There are several shops nearby as well as a couple of pubs serving food. There are some great walks nearby (and you’ll be allowed to bring your dog along to stay here too), plus a good bus service for when you’d like to roam further afield. Wide pitches provide easy manoeuvrability even for larger motorhomes, and access is straightforward from the M6 (junction 13 or 14) – that makes this a handy stopover point for longer journeys as well as a good base for a longer break.

Powered concrete and grass campervan site

Liked: Nice clean site with level pitches and near to a village with a pub. The access road is quite narrow and you share the toilet facilities with day visitors. The restaurant is open during the day only.

Liked: Lovely quiet location. Lots of farm animals for children to look at. Lovely friendly owners.

Disliked: Toilets/showers are unisex. They were quiet when we stayed but they are quite small so I’d worry about their suitability if the site was busy.

Liked: The ice cream and the shop. The animals.

Disliked: Seems like the caravan area is an afterthought. Our pitch was in the car park and we had to ask people parked there to move so we could access our pitch. The grass hadn’t been cut in quite a while. The chemical waste was an open sewer that overflowed onto the pitch area (thankfully not our pitch) whilst children were running around in the grass. The showers and toilets are shared with the general public and often so crowded it was impossible to go in, they were in a poor state of repair frequently out of toilet paper and if I used the shower I believe I would have been dirtier coming out. We stayed there as it was a convenient overnight stop-over but safe to say we are never likely to return.

From the manager: that's a shame, but when you cant put a honest review its a shame to make stuff up!!!!! yes in the summer we do get busy (it is a ice cream farm) we only open Wednesday to Sunday 10.30 to 4.30 but only get busy from 1.30 to 4 , as for saying the toilets was over crowded is not the case at all other reviews for the same weekend say " The toilets are mixed male/female, basic and kept clean." " The longer we stayed the more we loved it, though. Grahams Senior and Junior - the farmers who own the place - are great. The rural location on a working farm is idyllic and the animals are fascinating - we were even treated to a falconry display on one day. The farm shop and cafe is excellent - the ice cream is an absolute must! The proximity to the towns of Stafford, Gnosall and Newport is a big plus and Haughton - the village next to the site - is lovely with two pubs, a supermarket and a chippy. Only a couple of words of caution. If you arrive on a Sunday avoid the afternoon as it gets very busy with visitors. The other is that the toilets and showers are unisex and the facilities are shared with visitors each afternoon - we were dubious about this at first but we found it actually wasn't a problem. We went to Red Lion Farm as a group (four caravans and four generations) for my sister's birthday weekend and everyone really enjoyed themselves"" We love it here at red lion campsite, a a a a quiet peaceful place to stay this our second visit within a month, booked to stay again soon, the ice cream shop is great to pop along and buy yourself a treat, toilets and showers are spotless, thank you red lion campsite" but my biggest problem was you saying "The chemical waste was an open sewer that overflowed onto the pitch area (thankfully not our pitch) whilst children were running around in the grass." now this is not correct its set back into the cow field away from the pitches if it did over flow and we never had it overflow its been designed to over flow in the cow field a good 45 meters away across a road. if there was any problems its a shame you didn't come and speak to any of the team who are on call 24 7 and you had there mobile number before you arrived we work hard to keep it looking tidy and cut our grass and collect it up every week ( as long as its not raining) i find your review hard to understand when you arrived at 3.10 left by 10.30 next day.

Liked: Very spacious pitches, very peaceful after the cafe/shop is shut. But to be fair even Sunday was very busy with visitors you wouldn't have known how busy the site was just sitting outside the van chilling. The ice cream, coffee & cakes were amazing. Cafe serves sausage rolls & pasties for a hot snack, they were good too. The pigmy goats, chickens, ducks & guinea fowl roam free amongst the visitors & camping areas. It was lovely to share their home. I would seriously consider going back.

Disliked: Toilet & showers are unisex, not really a problem but very messy with so many visitors to the Farm during the day as they are the only toilets on site. 4 toilet cubicles & 2 showers.

Liked: Nice quiet site but plenty to see and do, loved the cafe/farm shop very reasonably priced, loved the variety of animals to visit and the show with the birds of prey, short walk to local shops and great villiage pub.

Disliked: Shared toilets and showers but not a big problem. Small holes in toilet doors bit of putting
