Liked: Initial surrounding area is excellent: beautiful campsite with pitches amongst lots of tall trees, lots of beautiful walks around Cannock Chase. Facilites are fair though could really use some toilets. In the day, the campsite is generally peaceful though I did have to move after one group was playing loud music through speakers - there's lots of space so this wasn't too much of a problem. Pricing isn't too steep. I would stay here again on a quiet weekday.

Disliked: The real problem is the antisocial behaviour that plagues the surrounding area at night. On all the weekend nights I stayed, there were boy racers speeding down the nearby roads with modified exhausts, stationary revving with honking - what sounded like street parties. Though this was reported to the police, it continued. I could hear all of this through earplugs. It's a shame this beautiful location is directly adjacent to one of the worse areas in England for antisocial behaviour. There was some sort of mountain bike event at the campsite on 2 June 2024. I was unaware of this until I arrived and all areas of the the campsite were totally overrun. Because of this, I didn't set up camp at all on this day and instead had a day at a local park. The fact there Tackeroo even accepted bookings for this day isn't very professional at all. I would not stay here again during a weekend. If getting a good night sleep at a weekend is a priority, forget it. If you're here for the day, you may have a great time.

Liked: Tackeroo forest is very picturess been surrounded by the forest . The walks are unreal and go on forever . Good that there is disposable waste and fresh water.

Disliked: Owner of dogs allowing them off lead with no consideration for others. Certain cyclists pulling wheelies by our vehicle

Liked: A lovely and well cared for site, you get that sense of nature. Plenty of walks and lots too see. I will return with my children to explore some more. The site attendants (Adam) was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to chat too. U can party virtually anywhere and enjoy the woods and country side. A must visit

Disliked: Dusty track with traffic going a bit to quick kicking up the dust all over the motorway, perhaps speed limit signs

Local attractions

Once you’ve ridden around all the area’s excellent mountain biking trails several times, keep the adrenaline pumping while suspended high above the forest canopy at Go Ape Cannock (five minutes’ drive), an activity centre with almost 1,500 metres of tree-to-tree crossings. Less energetic dawdles in the area include dog-walking and orienteering trails. Other gentle ways to while away a day include wanders by the water at Fairoak Pools (five minutes) or fly fishing on the banks of Blithfield Reservoir (15 minutes). Amateur historians could amble around Castle Ring, an Iron Age site (15 minutes), while shoppers might prefer to dip in and out of the boutiques of Rugeley market town (10 minutes). If stately homes appeal, navigate your way to the National Trust’s Shugborough Estate (15 minutes), a huge Georgian building with a walled garden. Into flexing your creativity? Check out Ingestre Hall, a Grade II-listed 17th-century Jacobean mansion and the UK’s only dedicated Residential Arts Centre (20 minutes).
