  • Quiet park four miles from Alton Towers
  • Wildlife haven spanning 46 acres and woodland trails
  • Within easy reach of the Peak District
Are you a hiker who's a fan of glitzy theme parks too? Retreat to and relax at Quarry Walk Camping and Caravan Park, a peaceful space that's within easy reach of both the Peak District and Alton Towers. This secluded area, patched with grass and heather, has a variety of woodland trails within its 46-acre boundary, and is home to an abundance of wildlife including rabbits, squirrels, woodpeckers and badgers. Many attractions are close to hand for your Peak District adventuring, such as the Churnet Valley Railway, Birdworld bird park and the limestone ravines of Dovedale; Buxton and Bath are also easily doable. Facilities on site include a play area with swings, slide and climbing frame; the site also has toilets and showers. For food, there is a delicious chippy in Clayton and Stoke-on-Trent has great Chinese and Indian options, as well as traditional British food and cafés (the city also has plenty of supermarkets, as well as a Polish and a South African food shop). Dimmingsdale is also a popular spot for lunch and afternoon tea.

Local attractions

Quarry Walk Camping and Caravan Park is an excellent base for cycling, hiking or just chilling out after visiting the nearby attractions. Within walking range of the site is Staffordshire's ‘secret’ woodlands, Hawksmoor – the National Trust-protected area is tip top for impressing your pals with atmospheric pics. Alton Towers, 15 minutes away, is one of the UK’s best theme parks, with extensive acres of green space to potter round and some of the country’s most adrenaline-inducing rides, such as Nemesis and Oblivion. You should also take a look at the display of Anglo Saxon gold in the Staffordshire Hoard (25 minutes) and medieval Lichfield Cathedral (50 minutes). If wandering through green gardens and visiting stately manor houses is more your sort of thing, then Aston Hall and Biddulph Grange Garden should put a smile on your face, both within an hour’s drive of the site. Staffordshire is stacked to the max with attractions, which include the famed ceramics and pottery factory shops in Stoke-on-Trent, and the many castles dotting the county. Statford Barn Railway and Tamworth Castle (both one hour away) are also worth browsing for those looking for a bit of history and culture. For something a little off the grid, Tamworth SnowDome is an hour’s drive away – here you can brush up on your ski and snowboard skills, whatever the weather. Happy shoppers will be chuffed to note that Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are all within two hours of the site.
