Off-grid, back to nature, whatever you’d like to call it… that’s what you’ll be getting stuck into at Rye Bank Adventures in the peaceful Shropshire countryside. This dog-friendly site on the Cheshire and Shropshire border is based right next to the Llangollen Canal, and you’ll have exclusive use of the whole site for up to eight adults and eight children. So, get stuck into fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking and canoening on the canal (or just watch the canal boats go by)… and then return to your Landpods, which consist of two sleeping pods named The Pod Father and the Woodland Lodge and an additional two bell tents which can sleep extra guests (a maximum of eight adults is recommended for your stay). They’re just for you, and that includes the wet room pod, which has a warm shower and composting toilet, with shampoo, conditioner and body wash all provided. The heated dining pod provides shelter for dinner, so stock the wine rack up on arrival, sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet. For extra indulgence, you can relax in the on-site hot tub. You’ll be doing the cooking in the camp kitchen, which has everything you’ll need but food and drinks. There’s a firepit should you wish to cook the old-school way; it has an integrated oven. If you’d rather eat out, there are pubs, restaurants and a café within a short walk or drive of the site. There’s plenty of wildlife to observe in the daytime (think buzzards, red kite, kestrel, herons, woodpeckers, hares, bats, foxes, stoats and badgers). By night, both sides of the Landpods open up fully, giving a view of the sunrise, sunset or stars from the comfort of the bed. What about your days out? The site’s next to part of the National Cycleway and there are lots of footpaths in the local area (some leading to very nice pubs). Hire a canal boat from Wrenbury Mill half an hour’s walk away if you wish. The nearest golf course is 10 minutes’ drive away too.
