Smart Shropshire stays are what’s on offer at Stoney Acres Luxury Holiday Park, a peaceful adults-only touring site in a handy location just off the A49 about 15 minutes’ drive south of Shrewsbury. Easy access to the main road means that it’s simple to get out and explore your surroundings from this park, whether you’re heading up into town, going south into the Shropshire Hills National Landscape or aiming to take in places like Ludlow and the museums of Ironbridge. Once you’ve parked up on site, you can leave the car behind and get around by public transport if you prefer. Handy bus services to Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Church Stretton leave from the nearby village of Dorrington (10 minutes’ walk away). There are plenty more useful things in the village too – it’s got a village shop, a butchers, a restaurant and a gastropub to make mealtimes easy (whether you’re doing your own cooking or eating out). Back on site, you’ll be staying at a pretty park with landscaped grounds and the extra level of peace you get from a child-free environment. As the name suggests, everything here has been designed to give a sense of luxury to your stay – the bathrooms, for example, have underfloor heating, rainfall showers and granite worktops, along with handy extras like hair dryers. Each pitch has a 16-amp electric supply, a drinking water and waste water facility and a digital TV hookup, and you’ll also have access to shared facilities including a laundry room, ultrafast fibre wifi and a dog wash station to avoid muddy paws after walks with your four-legged pal. The modern design also means this park is fully accessible to guests with disabilities.

Liked: Everything about this site is superb. The cleanliness and facilities are first class. The security is robust and the staff are extremely welcoming and very helpful. (including a welcome teabag coffee and biscuits pouch) The pitches are large and well spaced out to ensure enough privacy and are full serviced. The WiFi for me (on 3 network)was working very well. Despite being on a busy road it is quiet enough. The beauty is it's adult only and very well priced.

Liked: The place is immaculate. The bathrooms are well maintained and in very very good condition. From arrival to departure we were happy with everything. We called the night before as our previous stay was close by and we had to vacate and the lady on reception said we could arrive early. All the facilities were well maintained including the elsan waste. The pitches are well laid out we had waste water fresh water and power on the pitch. We walked into the village which took around 10-15 minutes and had a great meal at the local pub. There is also a bus stop nearby so access to Shrewsbury and surrounding areas is easy if you don’t have a car. Will be back definitely one of the best sites we have been too.

Liked: Immaculate, modern site with luxury amenities. Arrived to a lovely warm welcome and given information on site and local places of interest. This is a new site entirely run by the 2 thoughtful owners who made sure everything was in perfect condition at all times. Beautiful heated shower rooms and toilets. Each pitch had larger than normal space and all services. The sign before you enter the secure electric gates says 'luxury touring site' and is an understatement. There's a bus service within about 10 minutes walk which takes you to Shrewsbury or Ludlow. This is probably the best site we've encountered in our 3 years of motorhoming. A credit to this hardworking couple. Thank you to both of you.

Disliked: A little noise for just a short time from local quarry but honestly very minor and would not stop us from returning or recommending.

Local attractions

The Shropshire Hills National Landscape is well known as a lovely place for a walk, and you’ll be in prime position to explore from Stoney Acres. Some of the best known places to head for are Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (15 minutes’ drive) and the Stiperstones National Nature Reserve (35 minutes), but there are plenty of quieter trails to seek out too. There are lots of historic locations to visit around this area too – perhaps you’d like to stroll around the grounds of Attingham Park Estate (15 minutes), step further back in time at Wroxeter Roman City (15 minutes) or get to know the various museums of Ironbridge Gorge (half an hour), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of the Industrial Revolution. For more days out, find boat trips and canoe hire in Shrewsbury (15 minutes) or head south to Ludlow (35 minutes) to browse its foodie shops, tour its gin distillery and see its ruined castle.
