  • Family-run smallholding site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Spectacular views over Wenlock Edge and surrounded by walking trails
  • Play park with swings, climbing frame, trampoline and toddlers' area
At Walnut Cottage Caravan Park, a peaceful family-run site 10 minutes’ drive from the small town of Much Wenlock in Shropshire, finding the dream getaway doesn’t have to be a tough nut to crack. Nine miles from Wenlock Edge and the meadows and woodlands of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Walnut Cottage is a paradise for ramblers and adventurers. Heaps of walking routes, cycling routes and riding trails – many of which are part of the Shropshire Way circular – crisscross the area, so pull on those walking boots, don your bike helmet or climb into the saddle and explore. For the little legs struggling to keep up, a play park back on site will buoy moods – let the kids burn off some energy on the swings, climbing frame and trampoline (or in the toddlers' area if they're still mini). Feeling peckish? Fire up the barbecue and pile it high with supplies from the convenience store in Much Wenlock, then tuck in by the campfire. Friendly dogs are welcome on site, so don’t forget to toss Rex a bone – just make sure he’s leashed first. There is no wifi on site.

Power optional gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked: Lovely peaceful site, Wayne was incredibly friendly and helpful. Pitches are wide and long and very well kept. The facilities block is very nice and modern and spotlessly clean.

Disliked: Nothing, this site is perfect.

Power optional gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked: Everything. Fantastic welcome from Wayne. Spotless little site, peaceful, beautifully kept. Showers and toilets were too. It's a real find, we will be regulars from now on. Water on each pitch and the pay at the end electric meter on your pitch worked out cheaper. 2 nights stay £3.80 total Brilliant

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Power optional gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked: This is an absolute gem of a site, the facilities are by far the cleanest we've ever seen and everything is very well spaced out with a park on site for the kids to play on too. The autonomous mower is a great talking point and the owner is a real pleasure to deal with, very approachable and vey helpful, we were only passing through on a longer trip destination but wish we had time to have stayed longer. A huge secure electric gate gives you confidence of safety for your property and family, really nice place to be.

Disliked: The park is being upgraded in the winter shutdown so whilst it is still fully functional it is due for replacement which will really put the cherry on top of what is an excellent site already.

Power optional gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked: We had a brilliant stay at Walnut Cottage Caravan Park. The site is in a beautiful spot with lovely views and Wayne, the site owner was super helpful and responsive. Everything was spotlessly clean and the showers were spacious. Our kids loved having a field they could play football in and enjoyed seeing the donkeys, cats and goats. Lack of wi-fi not a problem - it was nice to have a break! Would definitely recommend this site and hope to visit again.

Power optional gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked: A beautiful site surrounded by lovely countryside views. The site is meticulously clean and well run. Pitches are well spaced with plenty of room. There is a dog exercising field and a play area for children.

Disliked: The narrow country roads are a bit hairy in parts when towing a caravan but the site is well worth the visit.

Local attractions

This part of Shropshire is brimming over with history. Start with an exploration of the ruins and reconstructions at the Wroxeter Roman city, Viriconium, 15 minutes’ drive from Walnut Cottage Caravan Park, then jump forward a thousand years or so for something more recent: at the birthplace of the industrial revolution in Ironbridge Gorge, 20 minutes away, wander through Blists Hill Victorian Town, learn about the history of iron in the Coalbrookdale Museum and cross the first cast-iron bridge in the world. There are plenty of stately homes and (formerly) impregnable fortresses nearby: the 13th-century Stokesay Castle is 30 minutes from Walnut Cottage, and the spectacular Attingham Park, Wilderhope Manor and Benthall Hall are all within 20 minutes of the site. The local towns are no slouches either: Church Stretton, the only town within the Shropshire Hills AONB, dates back to Norman times; Much Wenlock is home to a precursor to the modern Olympic Games, and the Wenlock Olympian Games are still held every year; and Shrewsbury was the birthplace of the Origin of Species’ Charles Darwin. For a break from history, hire a raft for a tour at Ironbridge Gorge, take to the slopes at the snowboarding and skiing centre in Telford, or get muddy at Severn Valley Quad Trekking, all within 35 minutes of Walnut Cottage.
