Local attractions

When heritage is top of your agenda, you’ll have plenty to see. Kick off at Broughton Castle (five minutes’ drive), a moated medieval manor where you can tour ornate staterooms and stretch your legs on waterside strolls. Next up might be National Trust - Upton House and Gardens (15 minutes), a 1930s period house filled with priceless furniture, while the impressive mansion and estate at Blenheim Palace is only 25 minutes away by car. If you have the kids with you, chances are they’d prefer to cuddle the ponies and feed the alpacas at Fairytale Farm petting zoo (15 minutes), or head to Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park (35 minutes) to encounter rare-breed pigs and cattle. There’s also the intriguing Cotswold Motoring Museum and Toy Collection in the typically Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water (half an hour). These days, it’s hard to ignore the Jeremy Clarkson connection in the area; Diddly Squat Farm Shop (his country store) is 20 minutes away in the car, while his notorious pub The Farmer’s Dog is 40 minutes’ drive, a fun stop for fans of the local celeb scene.
