  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

Liked: Lovely campsite. Great shop and hot food available at weekend. The goats and birds are a great touch. Facilities are ample and clean. Well presented and suit the site. Kids play area is good, the bouncy castle was a hit with our daughter. Staff were friendly and attentive at check in. Really really good campsite. Busy but not crowded. Lots of open space. Definitely heading back for a weekend soon again.

Liked: How child friendly this site is, it is small however there was a bouncy castle free of charge! A bigger children's climbing frame and a smaller climbing ship for the younger children. As it was small we felt comfortable to allow the children to go play as they could still be seen from our pitch. The little goats were a big hit with the children, they enjoyed going to greet them in the morning's. Staff amazing friendly and very helpful. Accomadated us as we were a large group and ensured our pitches where put together. The onside shop had fire pits that you just had to pay £5 for a deposit just had to buy there logs. Everything was very cheap compared to other sites we've stayed at. Lovely scenery, quiet of a night time Huge open field for the children to play happily. Already planning another stay!

Disliked: The hot water was extremely hot in the handfasting sinks in the toilets in the field. Other than that nothing

Liked: The kids loved the animals! The pitches are spacious and we didn't feel like we was being overlooked by other people. The park and bouncy castle are great for the kids to run around and play on The staff are lovely and helpful and the shop was reasonably priced.

Liked: My wife and i took my kids all under the age of 12 and our dog, along with my mate and his kids to this campsite for a weekend break, I personally had a great weekend, really nice place to stay. The pitches are soft and really well looked after. The staff are very friendly and informative, they offer great choices of freshly cooked food incase you don't want to cook, they have a great little shop with plenty of availability from bbq/fire making material to sweets, bbq and even toys. The kids have a free bouncy castle that the staff put up for them to use aswell as a nice size play area/ park, they even have goats and birds for the kids to view and pet. It's a very nice peaceful campsite, I've had a good weekend, my kids have all had fun and are happy.

Disliked: Nothing was a dislike to me

Liked: The facilities were amazing. Clean toilets and showers and enough for a busy site. Great touch with the kids play area and bouncy castle which my little one loved. Great to watch the goats and birds. Liked: The campsite was large, had a lovely friendly feel. The children loved the park, the bouncy castle and the animals.

Disliked: The toilets were unclean, no toilet roll or hand wash. Not enough bins around the campsite and the main one was overflowing. The showers had glass doors leading straight out to the children’s park which we found was poor planning. Shop and pizzas were closed.

10-amp powered grass site

Liked: It was in a nice area.

Disliked: Poor drainage on pitches. Little to no pathway for walking to the onsite shop and facilities especially from the second field, the rain made this walk difficult especially at night for myself and the children. Unfortunately toilets had a terrible smell, and during our stay the food was never open. We also found the trains really noisey late at night- this may have been my oversight and may have been advertised. We left early.

Unpowered grass site

Liked: Site not too big. Reception happy to charge phones at owner's risk. Chilled atmosphere. Easy safe access to walks with kids

Disliked: As a light sleeper, trains were very close & loud through much of the night. No bin or hot water at "far field" wash up. Main dislike was proportionally expensive for an solo in own small tent. I was part of a group of families with much bigger tents with 4-6 in them, yet the cost for each of our pitches was the same. Appreciate the importance of keeping camping affordable for families but £20 a night was borderline prohibitive for this single.

Unpowered grass site

Liked: Lovely location within few minutes walk of the Oxford canal and picturesque village. Goats and parrots a real win and a fab play area with bouncy castle which my youngest used whenever possible! Ground was flat and we could choose our pitch. Showers were lovely and hot and clean.

Disliked: Toilets were not regularly attended to refresh soap/clean.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
