  • Peaceful dog-friendly paddock pitches in the Oxfordshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Blenheim Palace and 40 minutes from Oxford
  • Walk 20 minutes to the country pub in Barford St Michael village
Bear down on these simply gorgeous and peaceful paddock pitches in the Oxfordshire countryside. The level grass field at Spring Hill Farm makes pitching up plain sailing. Once you’re all settled in at this pop-up place, seize the day by tracking down the palaces, castles and country houses within driving distance of the site, or just slide into a cosy spot in the country pub in the village of Barford St Michael, 20 minutes’ walk away. It may be peaceful out in the Oxford countryside, but the site still has good access to major routes. If you want to list out a bunch of activities for your itinerary, you might want to begin with the 17th-century Blenheim Palace (20 minutes’ drive), the moated Broughton Castle (15 minutes) or Oxford’s spires (40 minutes) and sights, which include everything from museums and a castle to a distillery and playhouse. Just short of two acres in size, the quiet grass field has access to running water, washing-up facilities and flushing toilets. So, back to basics, you go. Aside from the local village pub, there are many more pubs, restaurants and cafes within five to 10 minutes’ drive of the site when you want a hot brew or something tasty to eat. There’s no doubt that you’ll need the energy, considering that nearby family-friendly attractions include Fairytale Farm (10 minutes), The Lido, Chipping Norton (15 minutes) and the Banbury Open Air Pool (20 minutes). Any Shakespeare fans are bound to get in a significant number of steps in Stratford-upon-Avon (45 minutes) too, checking out the theatres and his birthplace.

Paddock unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Really good and comprehensive information and communication beforehand about our booking from the owners. Super clean toilets and showers. Pretty site with ample room and patches with flowering buttercups left to enjoy. We could choose our own pitch, depending on our preferences.

Disliked: It was a bit of a trek to the loos along a muddy track - remember to bring you wellies!

Paddock unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Stayed for the bank holiday weekend and even though it was almost full it was still nice and peaceful, quite a few groups and families with young children but all were respectful of others. Facilities were easy to find and were exceptionally maintained. Quiet and secluded location meant very little noise from passers by. Mary came round to make we had settled in and was lovely and friendly to talk to.

Disliked: Not a dislike but it would be appreciated if there were more fire pits available, especially on busier weekends as unfortunately we was not able to hire one.

Liked: The campsite is in immaculate condition. It was a lovely setting with some great scenery about. The facilities were very clean and the hostess was very accomodating but not interfering. Excellent campsite. I have made some great memories here.

Disliked: Nothing really comes to mind. As I say I could n't ask for better campsite granted we had great weather which makes my rose tinted glasses that much more rosier. My only suggestion if at all possible would be to make the fireplace a bit larger but other than that it was perfect. In fairness the fireplace was adequate for a warm evening but might have wanted a bigger fire if it had been colder.
