  • Luxury holiday stays in Nottinghamshire countryside
  • A half hour’s drive to Sherwood Forest; 15 minutes to Newark-on-Trent
  • Cider-apple orchard walks on site
If you’re feeling the need to get away from it all on a luxury escape with family or friends, BrackenXcapes in North Muskham, Nottinghamshire, may be the answer to your prayers. The kid- and dog-friendly site has a smart and cosy accommodation just ready and waiting for you to walk in, put your feet up and start getting on with the serious business of being on holiday. Once you’ve settled in – and that shouldn’t take very long at this welcoming spot – feel free to stroll around the peaceful, nine-acre enclosed site, wander through the young apple orchard (and help yourself to apples when in season) or admire the Nordic spruce-lined walk. The site is conveniently located half hour’s drive from Sherwood Forest, while the popular market town of Newark-on-Trent can be reached within a quarter of an hour by road. There’s a slew of bolt-in activities available for guests here – from yoga to canicross – so just ask your hosts what's on when you arrive for a full run-down.

Local attractions

Thanks to the site’s Nottinghamshire location near transport links like the A1 and several B roads, this is a smashing base from which to explore everything Robin Hood Country has to offer. Sherwood Forest (half an hour’s drive) was the legendary lair of Robin Hood, and once there you can follow the Robin Hood Trail to The Major Oak (20 minutes), while there are themed kids’ rides at Robin Hoods Wheelgate Park (25 minutes). Newark-on-Trent (15 minutes) is a historic and pretty market town overlooked by its castle, while Lincoln (half an hour) and its medieval cathedral are just a bit north. After big-city lights? The museums, shopping and pub scene of Nottingham (45 minutes) lie to the south. Adventurous activities include racing around the track at PF International Kart Circuit (20 minutes) and – a handy idea to bear in mind for rainy days – escape rooms at LetsXcape. For cosy family fun days, settle down to chess or backgammon at LetsXcape Together Board Game and Event Café in central Newark (both 10 minutes).
