General

  • Quiet park in scenic grounds in Scrooby village, by the River Ryton
  • A 10-minute drive from Bawtry and 15 from Yorkshire Wildlife Park
  • Acclaimed food pub within a couple of minutes' walk

Sail ever so seamlessly into your next summer (or spring, autumn or winter…) hol at Pilgrims Fathers Caravan Park: named in honour of a local resident who emigrated to New England on the Mayflower in 1620, this stellar site is in green and scenic surrounds on the banks on the River Ryton, a couple of miles from Bawtry and within the ancient village of Scrooby. Staying here will have you following in famed footsteps – Queen Elizabeth I and Cardinal Wolsey both stopped off in the area during their travels.

Guests on their own journeys will be pleased to know that this park is in a handy location, covering five and a half acres of north Nottinghamshire countryside on the border with Lincolnshire between the Peak District National Park to the west and the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east. Days out nearby could include seeking out the animals at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, perusing the shops in Doncaster and traipsing through Sherwood Forest – all within half an hour’s drive.

Back at the park, grass pitches, showers and toilets, a washing-up area and chemical disposal are handy facilities for your hol. Parking is allowed by pitches; if you want to leave the car there for a day, a bus stop close by has links to Bawtry and on to Doncaster.

For eats after returning from roams, an acclaimed pub serving food is a few minutes’ stroll away and a couple of supermarkets are about five minutes away by car in Bircotes if you’re having a crack at cooking.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

A tidy, small campsite23/10/2020

    A tidy, small campsite

    Disliked:

There were three ladies toilets (one being disabled) and one shower in the disabled loo. During our three night stay the toilets were not cleaned. To be blunt two poo marks in one of the toilets never disappeared. One had no loo roll and the disabled one was always wet due to being near the shower. The one toilet with loo roll had a round dispenser which hit you on the head or shoulder each time you sat on the loo as it had not been locked properly.

The floor was not cleaned and therefore muddy. (Except when I cleaned it before going in shower) - with Covid would have been nice if cleaned at least once a day.

Caravan behind us had a tv on in their awning practically all day and most of the evening and the bass or the tv could be heard thudding all the time. Also smoking cannabis outside and shouting at young kids from time to time made it difficult to completely relax. Not the campsites fault but still very annoying!

Handy stopover site which I used before and would be happy to again. I knew I’d arrive later than planned so phoned ahead and was given the gate code without any problems. Left in the morning without seeing the owners but again not an issue. Worth taking time to have a look round the pretty village of scrooby if you have a chance.
