Unpowered grass and earth site

Liked: We were able to get a pitch in the furthest field and had it pretty much to our selves. The facilities are fine, shower and toilet facilities, waste disposal, rubbish etc. the couple who run it are lovely and the team drive round and check on you occasionally to see if you need anything. We had a fire pit and a bbq and plenty of room for Frisby and footy. We’d go back for certain!

Liked: Location

Disliked: Policy states grouped bookings were not permitted yet a group of 3 huge tents were allowed, with a big family group that also did not adhere to quiet time policy, also not held up by the site. One evening noise went past 12am, the second it was 4am!! If you don’t pay 100% upfront the only option is either cash or a bank transfer! And then proof of payment is requested, they take a photo of your confirmation page! Be warned! Refuse area is just a fenced off biffa bin when you go in there it’s more like a tip yard! Toilets are clean but basic, take your own toilet paper, automatic lights don’t work when you enter at night and have to walk through the dark toilet area to a shower room area before they lights come on, not very young child friendly. Maybe on a different weekend we may have had a different experience, site cannot be responsible for peoples behaviour, but some management would have help keep those that didn’t respect others under check!

Unpowered grass and earth site

Liked: The pitch site Facilities

Disliked: For the type of business demanding cash from customers with proof of payment with name of the organisation. No date. It is an overnight stay for which a lot of things can happen like accidents etc. I cannot produce this as evidence of payment hence my request to pay into a bank account. If they accepted card payment it would be very different, it would be a five star. Whilst my name is there there is not way to prove this was issued at Boat Lane. Please don’t take it personally. If proof of payment is required I will only produce it in person. I still have a copy.

Unpowered grass and earth site

Liked: Good facilities, washing up room with a fridge and freezer and microwave, clean showers, toilets, drinking water taps dotted around, and a couple little swings for the kids to play on. Good sized pitches.

Disliked: Not particularly anything, but a little park for the kids would be great and some mobile signal 🤣. Although I do think the pricing could do with a rethink, we came as 2 adults 3 kids and could have shared one pitch, but with the pricing being 15 per adult per night and £6 per kid pn, regardless if staying together or separate it made it the same price to take two pitches and have more comfort. I feel if your all in the one pitch/tent/caravan it should be a little cheaper than having multiple pitches.

Local attractions

A major hub since the days of Robin and his Merry Men, Nottingham (half an hour by car) still draws the crowds. Tour the castle and the caves, take a glass of ale in Ye Trip To Jerusalem (one of many contenders for the oldest pub in England crown), skate on ice at Motorpoint Arena and see how far law and order’s come since the Sheriff’s time in the National Justice Museum. Sherwood Forest, three quarters of an hour away, harbours no brigands these days; within the nature reserve, country park and Sherwood Pines Forest Park you will find 450 acres of wildlife with among ancient oak trees and a wealth of biking and walking trails taking you through them. Traverse the tree-tops on ropes and wires at Go Ape, or let the kids loose on Robin Hood’s Hideout, an acclaimed natural play area; on your way back, call in at Ferry Farm Country Park a quarter of an hour from the site, to pet the pigs, feed the lambs, zoom about on go-karts and get adventurous on the adventure playground. If the ancient forest’s fired you up about history, make for Newark (25 minutes) with its castle, National Civil War Centre and Air Museum. Or to feel as if you stepped back in time, take the 45-minute trip to Wollaton Hall, where herds of red and fallow deer roam round a lake in the grounds of a stately Elizabethan mansion.
