  • Woodland site in historic Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire
  • Go Ape Sherwood 10 minutes’ walk; The Major Oak 10 minutes’ drive
  • Direct access to cycling trails and forest walks; bike station on site
Set on the edge of Sherwood Forest, known the world over for its links with the mythical Robin Hood and his Merry Men, Sherwood Pines is spread across 40 acres of gorgeous ancient woodland. First and foremost, it’s an excellent base for those who have big plans to explore the forest and its numerous hiking and cycling routes; there are paths directly from the pitches that guests can get straight out onto. Second? It’s within walking distance of many of the forest’s main activities, including adventure playgrounds, Go Ape Sherwood, bike hire, shady picnic spots and a schedule of open-air concerts held throughout the year. Plenty of useful amenities are available at Sherwood Pines too, including heated lockers for backpackers, a secure bike station for cyclists, a motorhome service point and a dog wash for four-legged guests. In summer, family activities take place on site. Mobile pizza and fish and chips vans visit most weekends. There is also a fresh coffee machine and a small shop in reception, handy if you need a quick caffeine boost or a snack before a big day out on the trails.

Powered grass site

Liked: The services were absolutely amazing. All the Team members smile and help you to find the perfect pitch for you (even really undecided customers) when is heavy rain or hot days. The site is organised great for everyone (bickers, kids, families, dogs) and the facilities are spotless.
In the end of our holiday we had trouble with car starts and a member of the Team came with a tractor and jumper cables to help us. They are prepared for any situation. Well done guys, you are doing amazing job ❤️.

Disliked: My holiday was too short 😁

Liked: Pitches spacious enough and not to far from park and shower/toilet blocks. Love that there’s a dog wash on the park too.

Disliked: Not enough toilet blocks dotted about and no plugs in toilets etc for those without electric to do a quick charge

Powered grass site

Liked: The site was ran so tightly and efficiently. Staff always happy to help and very knowledgeable.
I liked that you were taken to pitches on arrival and given lots of different options... quiet, sunny, shaded, family area etc. Beautiful site with all the amenities and more.
All toilets and showers clean and kept immaculate.
Pizza van Friday's and chippy van Saturday's.
Bike hire centre very short distance from camp site.
Children's playground closed at dusk. Basically lights out at 10, so everyone kept the noise to a minimum and staff rode around the site to check no fires or wild parties happening.

Disliked: Honestly haven't got anything to moan about, literally the best site we've been to and will definitely be back

Family Bothy 1 bedroom cabin

Liked: Site was well maintained and the facilities were SPOTLESS!! We stayed in one of the Bothy family cabins which was a great size for us as a couple travelling with two dogs!

Check in was really easy and the staff that we did see were all really friendly, there was a pizza van on the Friday night….. which was delicious!!! And the guys hit extra points with my dog Dave for giving him and his sister Lulu some chicken while we waited.

There was an abundance of wildlife around which was lovely to see and hear and some fabulous walks through the forest which kept us and our hounds happy for the duration of our stay!

The dog wash was also a very nice amenity to have….. although the door seals could do with being looked at or even having a mop to clean up any water would be great!!

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely come back again.

Disliked: The floor of our bothy cabin wasn’t the cleanest, there was a number of dead flies around and the floors (when I wiped them with some floor wipes I had brought with us) were BLACK!!

The rest of the cabin was spotless but the floors really could have done with a hoover and a good mopping!

Talking of mop it would be handy to have one in the cabins for our stay so that we could have cleaned the floors properly….. I’m sure had I have asked one would have been provided but as I had the wipes I didn’t feel the need, I absolutely think it would be worth providing one though…. Especially with the surroundings as those floors get FILTHY!!

Another thing it would have been nice to have is a dog park….. a little enclosure where dogs could have a little off lead time… I’m aware there’s a big old forest out there, but, my two aren’t always the best with recall and so it would have been nice to have somewhere they could go and chase a ball round in a secure enclosure with other pig headed dogs and their frustrated owners! 😂

The WiFi, isn’t 100% reliable it does dip in and out at peak times which could be frustrating at times however it wasn’t the end of the world.

The only other issue I had was with the hairdryers….. they couldn’t blow out a candle let alone your hair! 🙈😂 so either bring your own….. or have dry shampoo on hand if your not comfortable leaving your hair wet!!

Local attractions

Want to explore the forest on two wheels? You won’t need to fret about securing a bicycle rack to your precious car, as Sherwood Pines Cycles (10 minutes’ walk) is right within striking distance. Go Ape Sherwood (10 minutes) is also within walking distance, making it easy to go from lounging on the pitch to gliding down a zipwire and gazing through the leaf canopies. If you’d rather spend your time batting golf balls with gusto, try the Sherwood Forest Golf Club (10 minutes) instead. For one of the area’s most legendary sights, head to The Major Oak (10 minutes’ drive), an ancient tree rumoured to be connected to the legendary Robin Hood. If you still have plenty of energy to expend on some challenging activities, the Adrenalin Jungle Activity Centre (25 minutes) runs activities such as assault courses and paintballing. Finally, should you feel like pausing the activities to take in some important history, The National Holocaust Centre and Museum (20 minutes) is not too far away either.
