Set on the edge of Sherwood Forest, known the world over for its links with the mythical Robin Hood and his Merry Men, Sherwood Pines Campsite is spread across 40 acres of gorgeous ancient woodland. First and foremost, it’s an excellent base for those who have big plans to explore the forest and its numerous hiking and cycling routes; there are paths directly from the pitches that guests can get straight out onto. Second? It’s within walking distance of many of the forest’s main activities, including adventure playgrounds, Go Ape Sherwood, bike hire, shady picnic spots and a schedule of open-air concerts held throughout the year. Plenty of useful amenities are available at Sherwood Pines too, including heated lockers for backpackers, a secure bike station for cyclists, a motorhome service point and a dog wash for four-legged guests. In summer, family activities take place on site. Mobile pizza and fish and chips vans visit most weekends. There is also a fresh coffee machine and a small shop in reception, handy if you need a quick caffeine boost or a snack before a big day out on the trails.

  • Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.
  • Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.
  • No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Liked The facilities here exceeded expectations, it is clear to see why the campsite is highly sought after at such a reasonable price.
Set in the beauty of Sherwood Pines with well looked after sites, facilities and areas.

The check in system was simple, they supported in facilitation of two pitches alongside for our group.
Facilities were clean and all working.

Disliked The only downside, and this is specific to our group, is there are not designated smoking areas which meant at times smoke drifted from other pitches to ours where we have young-children present in a non-smoking family.

Great site, staff lovely, great location.

Liked Easy online booking. Great welcome. Good sized. Clean well maintained facilities. Loved the play area and proximity to sherwood pines visitors centre. Many activities in near locality. Small shop at the entrance hub. Fantastic site, good value and would recommend highly

Liked Site layout was great. Site grounds and facilities were lovely and clean. Plenty of toilets and showers. Lots of options for shade or sun. Well stocked shop with great opening hours.

Disliked Nothing.

Bothy camping pod (no pets)

Liked Plenty of space and kitchen items for 2 people. It comes with a 2-seater outdoor chair, as well as additional folding camping chairs you can bring outside. Not too far away from the central, shared toilets area.

Disliked No table inside or outside, apart from the tiny (easily flippable) piece of wood on the outdoor chairs. No parasol or way to shade the decking. No toilet and you had to bring your own bedding. However, this was indicated in advance and I was prepared for during my stay.

Great camp site, excellent clean facilities and playground, right on the doorstep…

Liked As always, impeccably clean facilities and really helpful staff. Although fully booked and very busy, the site wasn’t too noisy at all and we felt like we had plenty of space between a group of 4 families. No doubt we’ll be back in the near future!

Liked The place, the staff, the facilities were all amazing, couldn’t fault it

Disliked The family next to our pitch were very disrespectful, children throwing toys around and hitting our dog and van, the parents weren’t interested in controlling their children or interested in preventing damage to others or other peoples vehicles so we decided to leave prematurely. Not the campsites fault, just the kind of people that may attend the place.

Local attractions

Want to explore the forest on two wheels? You won’t need to fret about securing a bicycle rack to your precious car, as Sherwood Pines Cycles (10 minutes’ walk) is right within striking distance. Go Ape Sherwood (10 minutes) is also within walking distance, making it easy to go from lounging on the pitch to gliding down a zipwire and gazing through the leaf canopies. If you’d rather spend your time batting golf balls with gusto, try the Sherwood Forest Golf Club (10 minutes) instead. For one of the area’s most legendary sights, head to The Major Oak (10 minutes’ drive), an ancient tree rumoured to be connected to the legendary Robin Hood. If you still have plenty of energy to expend on some challenging activities, the Adrenalin Jungle Activity Centre (25 minutes) runs activities such as assault courses and paintballing. Finally, should you feel like pausing the activities to take in some important history, The National Holocaust Centre and Museum (20 minutes) is not too far away either.
