  • A scenic 30-acre site with two watersports lakes and 10 fishing lakes
  • Five-minute drive from Grendon village and 25 minutes from Northampton
  • Wakeboarding park, paintballing, fully licensed bar and restaurant
Nest in nature-rich Northamptonshire countryside – a full 30 acres worth of it – in the gorgeous grounds of Grendon Lakes for your next getaway. Travelling as part of a family, club, organisation, same-sex group or couple? No matter – all are welcome at this spacious spot touted by its owners as being 'safe, secure and happy'. This whopping park a five-minute drive from the village of Grendon is split into three different areas and has 12 lakes on site, two of which are dedicated to watersports with the other 10 aimed at anglers. Prime panoramas are to be had over most of these bodies of water, especially around sunrise and sunset, but some of the top terrain for feasting your eyes is at the lawn and patio around the Alpine clubhouse’s fully licensed bar, which overlooks the main watersports lake and Nene valley. More geared up for guerilla warfare than glimpsing such scenes? A paintball complex, wakeboarding and inflatable rides are on site for the thrill-seekers, and a pool table and toy areas round out the family-friendly activities. A restaurant serving up breakfast and light bites is also on base for sorting snacks. The grounds of Grendon Lakes are spacious enough for satisfying strolls, but more walks are to be had on the nearby public footpaths and country parks, like Castle Ashby Gardens (15 minutes’ drive).

Local attractions

All that paintballing and wakeboarding got you fired up for other adrenaline-fuelled activities? Set off for the Santa Pod Raceway (20 minutes’ drive) to survey the drag races at Europe's first permanent complex for 1/4 and 1/8 mile racing, or encounter more motoring history at Silverstone (40 minutes) – home to both the British Grand Prix and a driving experiences centre where you can sign up for all sorts of speedy thrills. Thrill-seekers may also like to schedule a visit to Wicksteed Park (half an hour) for 30 rides and activities, including one of the longest ziplines in the UK. Not got a head for heights? Laze about on the lake boats or wander through the bird-filled Woolloomooloo Aviary (half an hour) instead. For other sedate ways to spend the day, Althorp Estate (40 minutes, open July and August) is a countryside spot made up of cottages, farms, woodlands and villages to wander around. It’s also the final resting place of Princess Diana, for those who’d like to pay their respects.
