  • Family-friendly Lincolnshire campsite 15 minutes’ drive from Louth
  • Mablethorpe Beach and the Lincolnshire Wolds 15 minutes’ drive
  • Well-stocked fishing lake; rescue animals and restaurant on site
Less than 15 minutes’ drive to east-coast beaches, plus cuter-than-cute rescue donkeys and a large fishing lake on site. Sounds like heaven? Better hurry along to Sturdys Farm Caravan and Camping, a family-run Lincolnshire site opened in early 2024. At 15 minutes from Louth, the level camping fields have easy access along a hardstanding track for motorhomes and caravans, and each grass pitch has an optional electric hook-up. On-site facilities include portable toilets and a single shower unit. The local essentials shop is five minutes’ drive away – but if you’re not feeling the self-catering vibe, the site’s Old School Restaurant can take care of any hunger pangs (and it's got flushing toilets too for those who don't want to use the portable ones). The well-stocked lake is suitable for all fishing abilities – from children right up to the professional angler, and there’s disabled access to the pegs and nearby loos. Friendly staff members are on hand 24/7, offering the best local advice on what to see and where to walk in the pretty Lincolnshire Wolds countryside. Your dogs are welcome on site, but please keep them under close control around the resident livestock, which includes rescue donkeys, horses, pigs and free-range hens.

Power optional grass site

Liked: Just back from a lovely 2 night stay at Sturdy's Farm Caravan and Camping Park.We were welcomed by the owner Scott who couldn't do enough for us.We are quite new to camping and had a struggle with the gas but Scott helped us get it connected up.The site itself is set in a peaceful location with Mablethorpe and Louth in easy striking distance. The showers were lovely and warm and the toilets were Portaloo but campers are free to use the toilet facilities inside the lovely Café which is due to be opening soon.We got the Grand tour from Scott and Bev!One great bonus for me was the lake and being an avid fisherman I filled my net with some very sizable Carp.Sitting by the lake early morning it was bliss listening to the dawn chorus.I had read that there was a few issues on the opening weekend and I am glad I chose to give it a try as this place is a hidden Gem!We had driven past previously when the site was in development and thought what a great location it looked. The owner and his staff were busy putting in pathways to the showers, pot wash and Elsan point as he had had a few issues with the unprecedented amount of rain on the opening weekend. All in all a great location and pleasant stay and when fully open we will definitely be returning ! Thanks Scott and Bev!

Liked: Location

Disliked: Toilet block advertised was not available to use, unserviced make do portaloos and showers set up in muddy area. Elsan point blocked and spilling effluent out into hedgerow. £40 taken for electricity for a 2 night stay, £25 back, £15 for 2 nights definitely charged more than the 0.23p kwh advertised, no meter receipt. Worst site we have visited, Man taking money was not bothered that we could not empty our toilet, muddy around services area, no tap on drinking water point, only interest was cash, certainly one to avoid, will not be returning

From the manager: Sorry to hear about your unpleasant visit. Unfortunately there was a blockage with the elson point, and the heavy rain over night didn't help. It is a camp site, in a field, with people walking to and from the same points with the rain its bound to get muddy. We have just opened and were bound to have a few hiccups, All of our eclectic hookups are metered and are charged per kwh at the time of our flexible rate from the supplier. We have had people in tents using electric heaters which has cost more money than somebody parked next to them in a caravan not using a heater. The portaloos are serviced twice daily, but we also left the cafe toilets open for anyone to use who didn't feel confutable using a portaloo.

Power optional grass site

Liked: Found the hosts very polite and helpful. The view we had across the lake was phenomenal especially watching the sunset

Disliked: Was not informed prior to staying temporary toilets and shower block. We would have not stayed here had we been informed prior. Was advertised as a shower block not temporary showers. The generator was not sufficient enough and the water was on and off during a shiwer

Power optional grass site

Liked: View onto the lake was beautiful, the entrance into the site was easy to find and straight onto the main roadway. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, always happy to help.

Disliked: The campsite was a pleasant setting and probably a lot easier to use in good weather, however, the facilities were set directly onto the grass meaning we were apprehensive how useable they would be if it rained. Unfortunately this turned out to be proven. The site got progressively muddy to the point that by day 3 the showers, toilets, Elsan and washing up area were almost unuseable. The Elsan didn’t cope with the intended use and I slipped whilst trying to empty our unit, the Elsan was completely blocked and overflowing by the Monday morning when everyone was emptying their units to go home. The shower rooms didn’t feel very private when the main door was open and were accessed by unattached steps which were sliding in the mud and we decided we would actually be muddier showering than not on the last day due to the sludge outside the door. The toilets were portaloos and occasionally had no toilet paper and were muddy, we were unaware of any alternatives open on site. The washup area is nicely made but again slipped getting to this and ended up being caked in mud using any facilities. The useable drinking taps were on a slope making it slightly slippy getting water in the rain. The lake is beautiful but unfortunately for one of our 3 days on site we had a fisherman sat in front of our pitch from around 5.30am which woke us up and also ruined our privacy a little. Electricity was paid for at the end by the owner checking the meter, we found this a little uncomfortable and was slightly inconvenient to have to bring £40 cash as advised on booking and not use anywhere near this during the stay. The signposted exit was a drive out to a farmyard and we thought he we had gone wrong the way as the gate was shut..very unclear about where to go to exit. It felt like a very new campsite and with a few improvements would be a really nice site.

Power optional grass site

Liked: Pot wash and shower facilities were great, and plot spaces were of a good size. With Lincolnshire wildlife nature reserve not to far away, this site had an abundance of early morning bird songs. With low light pollution it gives an excellent view of the stars, with plenty of public paths dotted around, and the Treadle Thorpe dunes not too far away, this made a great quiet break. For those looking for a local hostelry, then the Persian Queens is within walking distance.

Disliked: The toilets were porta loos, but I believe that the owner is trying to address this, as one of many improvements he has planed.
