What customers say
This quiet, compact site behind The Durham Ox pub boasts spacious, tidy, level gravel pitches. Campers rave about the super friendly, helpful staff, great value, and cracking pub grub (often with a discount!). Rural but handy for exploring. Lacks its own loos/showers, but this is reflected in the price and fine for self-contained rigs.

Value for money pitch for a weekend
Power optional grass and gravel caravan site
Liked Gem of a place for a weekend getaway right behind the pub. Very good communication beforehand, very friendly check in. Only a small amount of pitches but all very well spaced out and very clean. Has the usual facilities for rubbish, water and elson point. Does not have showers and toilets but was aware of this before hand and have a self services motorhome. Nothing to dislike. Disappointed we were unable to try the restaurant however, understand it is December and xmas parties are booked. We will definitely try again in the future. Value for money.

Missing a trick with food, outdated rules, convenient for Hcastle.
Power optional grass and gravel caravan site
Liked Staff were helpful and welcoming.
Location was convenient and the pitch was a good size with easy access.
Disliked Dining was restrictive, not able to sample full menu in bar area. Dogs only allowed on non carpeted area in bar?
No heating in the area of the bar where we were, adjacent was an open fire however the carpet/ and lucky regulars prevented us from sampling the cosyness on the worst weather of the year.
Children not allowed in the bar after 16.30, again restrictive.
Connection to the EHU was by a pre pay booking, ok if the pubs open when you get there.

From the manager: Thanks for your review.
All of the comments that you made are relating to restrictions that are mentioned in our description within Pitchup. You are also informed of these when you receive a booking confirmation from us and again when you receive your welcome pack. I'm really not sure what else we can do to let you know about these, so that you can make a booking on a suitable site for your needs.
Dogs are allowed in the bar (on non carpeted areas......they used to be allowed on the carpet, but unfortunately not every dog would appear to be house trained. Also in winter when dogs arrive wet, then they leave a doggy smell on the carpet which is hard to remove and some owners were allowing their dogs to sit on the sofa.) Also not everyone is a dog lover so we provide the carpeted areas in the bar for those customers who do not want to be near a dog. We also do not allow dogs in the restaurant for the same reasons.
With regards to customers/locals already sitting on the sofa in front of the log fire which you would have liked to sit on. Even if you didn't have the dog with you, they would still have been sat there, would you have liked me to ask them to move for you? The area in which you sat has an electric fire and central heating, perhaps the fire was not on but the radiator heating definately was so it shouldn't have been cold. But we would have happily turned the fire on if you had said you was cold.
Again with regards to children not been allowed in the bar after 16:30. Some people do not want to sit and listen to children when they are out having a drink and prefer to be with adults, therefore children are only allowed in the restaurant area of the pub.
It does say on your booking confirmation that if you think you will arrive when the pub is closed, just let us know and we will put some electric on for you so you have it ready when you arrive.

Power optional grass and gravel caravan site
Liked nearest site to Horncastle, behind a lovely pub and restaurant, decent size pitches very reasonable price, bookable on pitchup, very friendly owners
Disliked Electric is a bit of a faff, you can't claim back any used lecy because you have to be off the site be 11.30 and the pub doesn't open till 12 o clock, so they ring you and transfer it back into your bank account.

Liked They made the process really easy, telling you ahead of time which is your pitch, so you can get parked up straight away. Lovely tidy pitch areas and very peaceful. The welcome from the team in the pub was fantastic, I also stayed for a couple of drinks and meal - would highly recommend based on both service and quality of the food.

Liked Great place to stay at side of the pub which served great food (especially the Cow Pie). Staff really welcoming and helpful. Site was very clean with no litter and pitches plenty wide and long enough for our 6m long motorhome which were level. Highly recommended.
